WOW....I really want to go to the University of Michigan one.....

Hey darby, how was the 2-TASP dynamic of Cornell? Did you have separate house meetings and do your separate thing, or was it still a collaborative endeavor in terms of social activities?

Eh, none of the topics seemed to "click" at first. But now Cornell II sounds fascinating! Michigan would be my second choice.

do you guys think it would be easier to get in if you chose as your first choice what looked to be a less popular choice? or will it not make much/any difference?

Well, they don't always honor your first choice, so...

I think it's more about the explanation though.

What if someone got into both RSI and TASP? How would they possibly decide which summer program to attend???:p

Hey darby, how was the 2-TASP dynamic of Cornell? Did you have separate house meetings and do your separate thing, or was it still a collaborative endeavor in terms of social activities?

The seminars were separate, but eating/living/meeting/all other arrangements were together.

Oh wow, the new seminar topics!

Cornell 1 and Michigan do seem to have pretty amazing ones.

And yeah, there's no secret, special, quasi-illegal way of getting the application. Just go to the website and download a copy once the new one's uploaded. :D

I got into my first choice, but someone else at U Mich picked it as her last choice. It really has to do with what's available, not by merit. Cornell (War and Terror) was by far the most popular, and obviously everyone couldn't go.

RSI and TASP? lol, I guess it's possible. Then again, there was a presence of math/sci at tasp, I can't imagine it would work the other wa around.

Do the TASP ppl meet up again after the program like the RSI people do?

All 18 of us haven't (and I would guess probably won't) meet up, but individual people do. A good number of us live near colleges, so when someone is in town for a tour we make a point to meet up then.
The logistics of 18 people from accross the country (and a few in Europe) are impossibly complicated.

The RSI people get some sort of sponsored get-together?

Anyway, the Telluride Association doesn't organize such reunions except if you become a member and get to go to Deep Springs/Cornell Branch for their annual meeting.

But if you're asking whether TASPers ever meet up again, then I sure hope yes! We're working on it at the moment, except everyone's sort of stressed OUT because of school, and applications. So the situation should be better once the new year rolls around.

Hey pianoking, be more positive. We can at least have large chunks of our TASP meet up. Or, if someone (some people?) were willing, we could try organizing the hooj reunion sometime next summer or during our college years. Now that would be fun :D! But that's all very optimistic thinking at the moment, considering I don't even know whether I'll be going to college in the States yet. :p

Sometimes the TA does arrange reunions of a sort; 2004 was the 50th anniversary of TASP and in addition to celebrating during the summer at the various TASP locations, there were functions in the fall in about 6 different cities where all TASP alums could get together.

I have a feeling that a lot of TASPers will end up in the NYC-New Haven-Boston strip of the east coast, so a college reunion may be the most probable occurence. As for the seminar, rank in order of what you want to do, but know that your first choice may not be where you end up. In any case, I think those who go somewhere other than their first choice do end up content and broadened.

PS: We did end up with one admit to Michigan turning down TASP, which I imagine was because of acceptance to another summer program (ie RSI), or extreme, extreme stupidity.

Really? I didn't know we had a 19th. Must have been RSI. What other reason could there be?

Sorry if this was asked before or any such thing but could ya tell me just about how many ppl apply? So its out of that application pool that around 160 people are selected for interviews?

Sorry its really late and I dont have the energy to search for it, or to go through all the previous posts. Thnx a lot

Yeah, one of the guys got in as a second (backup), so that's assuming someone was accepted and backed down. No idea why, though.

The number of applications usually hovers around 900. From that, yes, about 160 are interviewed and 80 accepted.

nooooooooooooooooooooo we cant let this thread die!!!!!!!!!

Dearly beloved: we gather here to say our goodbyes
Here she lies; no one knew her worth
The late, great daughter of Mother Earth
On this night when we celebrate the birth
In that little town of Bethlehem
We raise our glass, you bend your ass to
