Tax Forms?

I logged onto my ONYEN, and voila, my application is incomplete. I have a few questions.

**W-2 Statement. **I don’t work, so I don’t have a W-2 form to send in. What do I do? Send them a letter specifying my lack of employment?

Parent’s W-2 Statements My mom hasn’t worked for several years because of her illness and weak constitution, so we’ve been relying on the gov’t and my uncle for support. Therefore, she has no tax forms. I technically have no father. It’s not on my birth certificate. Again, no tax forms for my father. How do I explain/confirm this?

I would email the financial aid office or at least call them. Then they will finalize your aid award.

It appears that you were tagged for verification as I was. Definitely call them on Monday - I asked if they were working this weekend and they are not. They will tell you what you need to do. If you were tagged, you also have to complete verification forms.

^Skimming over the verification forms, it looks like I'll be in a little trouble. I'm 1st gen/family, so all these questions such as tax-deferred pensions and such, I really don't comprehend. Good thing I have no school on Monday.

what do you mean by "tagged" newjerseymom?

yeah....I'm a first generation student, so I filled out all the forms myself...not my parents...I hope I did it right..and yes..I had to do the verification.

If we need to be verified..when do we get our financial aid...

you will be ok. verification doesnt take long. did you file a return? the admissions office is VERY helpful, and the financial aid people....Good luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS on your achievements! We are all proud of you and I am sure your family is even more so.

Danny_125 - UNC does not require that your send tax returns to the school with your CSS Profile and FAFSA. Instead, they randomly select people to send these documents. I was one of the "lucky" ones that got tagged and I now have to send my tax returns and fill out verification papers. Not a big deal but any award my son will get will be delayed until they review the new documents.

Did you guys receive letters through the mail as well? I have only received an email regarding them needing all of those forms and a verification form. But, I can't seem to figure out what the verification form is. I received my CCI Laptop grant in the mail, but nothing about missing information. Should I expect something in the mail, or do I locate the verification form on their website somewhere?

Well, NJ Mom, Danny and I are all OOS...and we got it through snail mail....we never got an email...the verification paper...look for a link where NJ Mom posted as a thread....there are so many people with this problem...

my letter never said to send a verification paper. It only asks for me to create an ONYEN. Funny thing is, I CAN'T!

Onyen says that our application is complete - yet the financial aid office states we have been chosen for verification! Very strange.

you know what would be terrible and agitating?
calling 20 times in a row to the office of financial aid and never getting through!(just like this past friday)
I will have to call early on monday

^Ditto. I didn't see their hours of operations, but I'm going to make sure I bust their ringer at nine sharp.

:edit: Make that 8 o'clock. :D

They start answering phones at 9. Sometimes you will get a message stating that there are too many calls and you should try again. Other times, you only have to wait a few minutes. I spoke with them twice on Friday and had to call many times. I never received a letter by snail mail - they told me on the phone that I was chosen for verification.

what are you guys talking about? i have recieved no such letter and i logged onto myUNC and nothing about financial aid. not even on applicant central.

should i be worried?

and i filled out the fafsa and profile

Does it say anything on either Applicant central or ONYEN, that your app is incomplete? If that's not the case, your app. is probably complete.
