Tax Law

I'm browsing the websites of tax attorney's and it seems all of them have CPA certifications. Is having a CPA necessary if you want to do tax law?

I talk top a guy on aim who's a tax lawyer that majored in liberal arts undergrad. You dont have to be a CPA, but it'll make you tax law courses a lot easier if you already understand accounting.

For "biglaw" an LL.M. is standard. Most of the job descriptions I get for tax lawyers include the advanced degree as either a requirement or a definite plus.
