Tax question

My Fafsa was submitted on time, in my state by march 30th, but my parents had to make an estimate for last year's taxes (2012). the tax deadline for this year is apparently today and my mom is freaking out and she thinks that if our taxes don't get filed today then i will lose all my grants and financial aid associated with the fafsa. is this true???

Mom is wrong, probably. Most schools will give you a tentative award pending verification. They will not finalize/release FA until verification is complete (parents file and give copy to school via FAFSA import or IRS transcript). Some schools are really bad and won’t even look at your application until it is complete. Federal aid is not at risk (but then your parents would not have a difficult tax form), but school aid may be all gone by the time they get to you.

By not filing your FAFSA until March 30, you may have missed some schools’ deadlines for their best aid. Next year, file on January 1. Otherwise, OperaDad is right.
