What can we expect for a typical merit scholarship for TCNJ and Rowan? Son is a junior, 1430 on the SAT’s, 4.2 weighted gpa (3.8 unweighted). Interested in biomedical engineering. Taking the ACT’s in Feb.
Did you use the NPC on their websites?
Maximum merit at TCNJ is noted as $6,000 max on the website, but two weeks ago we were there and I thought I heard a rep say $8,000.
The TCNJ website also says they want at least a 1300 SAT for merit, but last year a rep told me they prefer to see at least a 1360. Meanwhile, I was told they decide awards very holistically.
Rowan merit goes up to $20,000K+. @NJRoadie posted an older chart that Rowan used to have on their website that you can find in the Rowan section.

According to that chart, a 1420 could be eligible for merit from $10,000 to $20,000. But we don’t know if that’s valid at all now.
Rowan seems to use merit strategically, at least that’s the impression I get. For example, last year an engineering professor received a grant to increase diversity among engineering students. So I would not be surprised to see students who are URM among the engineering student population get generous awards. Also, there was a donation earlier this year to support business students in the honors program.
I have a vague memory of running a NPC on the Rowan website when I started researching schools a year ago that asked about level of curriculum rigor and extracurricular involvement. So I suspect they decide holistically, too.
Rowan should be releasing merit awards for the class of 2022 this week. I hope lots of students post their awards.
Thanks so much MACmiracle!
@NJDad26 Some awards are starting to be posted.
