TCU Music School

Does anyone know if TCU has a great music school? They have a Nordan Scholarship where they offer full tuition for those who are selected. Thanks.

It’s not ranked among the best schools, no, but that doesn’t mean that it might not be the right place for you. The proper combination of teacher and school can be found in many places and if a school has something that interests you, by all means, check it out.

It is stronger in some areas than others. What area are you?

Piano performance.

The piano faculty is TCU is strong but it is all relative to some of the other schools you may be considering. Mezzo’smama has a good point about combination of teacher and school. A strong faculty does not mean in and of itself that a school is the right one for you. No harm though in going for the full scholarship and then make a decision if you get it.

What is your career aspiration

My dream is to become a piano professor one day at a fine institution, so I hope to pursue my masters after bachelors and then a DMA.

Depending on your performance career, you may not need a DMA. But more to your point, given that you have a specific career goal in mind, look into each school you are considering and their track record with piano performance graduates going into higher academia. Some of the schools on your list may do a better job than others. TCU has several piano faculty from Julliard for instance. Where do the TCU grads go that don’t simply devote themselves to performance. Are there teachers who received their BM from TCU at the schools on your list. And don’t discouraged by people who try and talk you out your goal. If you have the talent, I think it is nice for someone in high school to actually have a career path in mind.
