ACCEPTED!
Teaching Mathematics in Bay Area, California!

Accepted
Final Interview date: Friday, 10/21
Applied for transitional funding? Yes!
If yes, was there a change to Complete – Wednesday, 11/2
If accepted, also post the region you were assigned to and grade level/subject you’ll be teaching: I’ve been assigned to teach elementary school in Metro Atlanta! I am so excited! Could not have asked for a better placement.

Though, for some reason, I can’t seem to access my transitional funding information…I would like to know what they’re offering me. Meep!

Congrats to everyone accepted! And for those who were not accepted, I’m sure there are other excellent things on the horizon!

For the time being, go to
Transitional Funding > Supporting Documentation

At the bottom of supporting documentation should be some numbers regarding how much money you’re getting. They’re kind of screwy and may not be the final numbers but at least it gives you an idea for the time being. My friends and I have all not been able to access the status/financial aid award letter link.

Final Interview date: Wednesday, 10/19
Applied for transitional funding? Yes!
Change to Complete: Thursday, 11/03 (note: my last name starts with Y - maybe that’s why it took so long for my application to be processed).
Placement: Alabama/Secondary Math - yay, EXCITED (scared to take the PRAXIS II test though, but oh well, will study SUPER HARD for it)!

NO Transitional Funding info either - shows a mistake when I click on Status (I emailed the Grant & Loan department - hopefully they’ll help on this one!). But you def. can see the amounts under Supporting Documentation, as thegirl08 has mentioned!

YAY! Congrats everyone!!! I can not believe we made it through the waiting time - this group therapy has DEFINITELY been helpful!

To everyone who did not make it - YOU WILL ROCK whatever else you will go for! I am SURE and I BELIEVE in all of you! Once one door closes, another opens, so do not let this rejection discourage you. Just a side note - I was rejected from all schools I applied to - ALL of them, one by one, just to BE ACCEPTED BY THE SCHOOL that released decisions last. That school happened to be UC BERKELEY. So NEVER give up! :)

Everyone accepted - Who else will have their Institute in the Delta?

The transitional funding status link is now working. Also if anyone is interested in being Facebook friends let me know! Would love to keep in touch.

Hey everyone! I just got invited to the final interview-- yay! It’s November 30th for me. Congrats to everyone already accepted!!

Any tips for someone about to go through the process?

Congrats on the final interview! You probably don’t believe it now, but no matter how the process turns out, the final interview day is a really positive experience. It’s awesome to be around like-minded people, and it’s humbling how much everyone has accomplished. I had a great experience with my interview group (we all went to lunch together in between the morning and afternoon activities–and I’ve heard similar things from a lot of people). And the process is so grueling that it’s good interview experience in general. So, I guess my first tip is to go in there with an open mind.

Next advice is look really closely at what TFA says you can do during your lesson. I think they say you can bring display boards, have a final assessment, and start in the middle of content (like, assume prior knowledge)–I would do all three of those things. The first two because TFA looks for things like that and they’ll make your lesson more engaging and the third because it’s really the only way to keep your lesson down to 5 minutes. Also, state your objective and bring a paper with the information they ask you to write on the board (name, grade level, objective, subject) pre-written so that you’re not spending your 1 minute of prep time doing that. I’d also teach something aimed a lower grades (no matter what you want to teach) because the content is simpler and it’s easier to be engaging, imo.

Great info! Thanks so much. I’ve been distressing over my 5 minute lesson since well before I found out for sure if I made it to the final interview. I think I have a topic, but I’m not quite sure. Do they ask a lot about the pre-reading in the one-on-one interview?

I just had my interview yesterday and now get to play the loooooooooooooooong waiting game.

Just had mine today! I’m glad someone else is here. Maybe we can commiserate in our misery together as this next month and a half drraaaaaaaaagggss on! Hah! How’d yours go? I feel like my lesson went well, but I think my personal interview went exceptionally well! (Of course, maybe my interviewer was just really nice :P)

Hi everyone!

Just had my interview today! I think my lesson went well. I was under 5 minutes, was able to “teach” my lesson, check for understanding, and met the requirements on the Interview Prep notes. My one-on-one went well too. I guess I’m just kind of wondering if everyone exits the interviews feeling great or if any of you have lingering thoughts on your interviews?

It’s so crazy to be done with the interview process!

Good luck everyone! :)

Hi im the newbie

Had my interview yesterday…I think i nailed it but, im nervous I may have said the wrong answer when discussing how I feel about assessments… But im still Hopeful. Not excited about this wait though…I made Special Ed my only Highest Preference and because I checked Spanish as a foreign language, I took the test today.
Hoping I will get the email saying Im being sent to the East Coast!!! on Jan 17 that is

And any1 else from Cali? :)

Nope! I’m from Ohio.

I finished my 5 minute lesson too. I think it went over well. I didn’t have an assessment at the end, but I had an activity (students even had to stand up! gasp!). My personal interview really was the best part of the day. But then again, my interviewer just may have clicked with me personality wise. That doesn’t mean she’ll necessarily think I’m a good fit. I guess we’ll see!

I’m hoping for the Appalachian region. (Home to me… I doubt it will be preferred too heavily so hopefully if I get accepted that’s where I’ll be headed!)

Mookie08 Congrats!

I’m planning on taking the Spanish test on Sunday when I’m a little more free. Is it pretty straightforward? Would you say its like the AP Spanish test or more conversational?

This wait is killer!
