Teach For America 2012 Corps

I was wondering who else is applying to TFA? I applied 1 DL and I can't wait until tomorrow to find out if I made it to the final interview.

I applied for the 2DL and I’m waiting until tomorrow too. How do you think your phone interview went?

I guess it went well seeing as I made it to the next round! lol Actually I couldn’t really tell how my interview went. I felt like my phone interviewer kept trying to trip me up or something but she laughed when I told her how I like the aesthetics of a color coded gmail. Who else made it to the final round? I’m so excited/ nervous! I’m still trying to finalize my region preferences. the only place I just really don’t want to be is Mississippi.

Applied for the 2DL and had my final interview earlier this week. Did both of you have final interviews yet? If so, how did it go?

Had a final interview today. Thought it went really well, but now I can’t help but rethink some of the things I said. Ugh, nerves.

I had my final interview on Friday. I couldn’t wait to get the lesson plan over with. I think my lesson plan went okay but I felt I did really well on all the other portions of the interview. I was really surprised at how friendly my group was. We all went out to Chipotle for lunch before we started our one on one interviews and talked about everything from college life to pop culture. I had a blast. I’m going to be a nervous wreck until November 8th though! lol

Same here - thought the interview went well, but now am nervous a bit and can’t wait for the results to come out on Nov 8th! What did you guys put for your assignment preferences? Anyone put southern states (Mississippi Delta, Louisiana, Alabama, etc)?

I just applied to the October deadline…I’m do excited. Y’all should check out teachforus.org its a blog site that current corp members are apart of and they have some wonderful stories

I interviewed on Oct 17. Put Philly first.

Did anyone else’s transitional funding status change to complete? I’m wondering if this is a good sign, or if they just happen to look at everyone’s files.

I interviewed 10/20… My transitional funding still says under review, did u guys all have phone interviews or did you go straight to the final interviews?

I went straight to the final interview.

I think it’s probably a good sign that your transitional funding status changed. I’ve heard that was an early indicator in previous years. I interviewed 10/21 and I’ve been checking my transitional funding pretty compulsively. Possibly starting to go crazy.

I put Bay Area, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, Boston, and San Antonio as Highly Preferred.

I believe that on the 2011 corps thread those who transitional funding status change got a TFA invite

c9chung, when did your status change, if you don’t mind me asking?

I interviewed the first day so they just probably got to my application first. Mine barely changed yesterday… not that we know if it means anything anyway.

I put Philly, Colorado, New Jersey as my top 3. Anyone know of stories from people who went there? I only met people who went to LA and Mississippi.

If you go on teachforus.org you can search by the city and read blogs from current cm’s in that area

C9chung, did you mean your Trans.Funding status changed when you actually click on Transitional Funding Status, and instead of Under Review it now says Complete? Or do you mean it just says Complete in green color on the main page, along with same green-letters Complete for other things required for submission, such as Transcripts, Coursework, Assignment preferences, etc.?

I applied 2DL. I had the phone interview and the final interview Oct 18. I cant believe that that was only about a week and a half ago. I feel like my lesson plan went extremely well. The group discussion went well too. I tried to say enough, but without monopolizing the conversation. As for the 1 on 1 interview, I really couldn’t tell how i did. I dont think I said anything wrong, but it was impossible to read the interviewer. She typed the whole time (which she said she would do). Now, all i can do is what for the email on November 8. It feels like the interview was so long ago. The days are dragging by and the suspense is killing me. I really hope I get it.

Yeah, I feel the same way coco1112. My lesson was great, I thought, the group conversation went well, and then I thought the personal interview went well but I’m not sure and I’m afraid one of my answers was like a “Don’t ever say that” thing. WHY ISN’T IT NOVEMBER 8th? I’m gonna go around thinking I didn’t get in until then. :/

Does anyone know if applying earlier improves chances of being accepted?

I’ve heard conflicting things. But I did read an article on TFA that had numbers that said around 31% of people are accepted after the final interview (which is more than I thought). I would think earlier DLs have to have higher acceptance rates because they still have all their spaces to fill. I guess what I would say is it’s harder for them to find a placement for you during late DLs if you’re not willing to go wherever you’re most needed.
