To the people who got assigned Memphis, you guys will love it here!
Anybody get SW Ohio??
@Tfamemphisbound I actually lived in Orlando for a few years as a kid, so I’m pretty comfortable with relocating to Florida, again. Ironically, I’m going on vacation to Miami at the end of the month haha
Thanks, very exciting @teach901! Houston is great too, I have a lot of family there! Congrats on your acceptance!
Thanks again for suggesting the format again. I totally didn’t do it before @caroconcerta

Hi everyone! Congrats!! I was accepted to the 2016 corps!! However, I received a placement I am rather unsure about… I was placed in Chicago grades 1-6. I was really hoping for a state I could use my praxis scores in and due to family obligations, was hoping for New Jersey… lots of thinking to do…

Congrats to all that were accepted. I am feeling really sad. I really thought my final interview day went great and the interviewers seemed to love me. I guess I was wrong and the email just exacerbated my depression even more. It sucks to not know what’s going on after graduation, if anything.
@collegegirl7123 Please do not see this as a sign of defeat. A reason to eat quarts of ice cream and an alcoholic drink or two perhaps but not a reason to lose all hope. I also did not have any jobs lined up after graduation and spent 5 months crying and secretly jealous of all my employed friends. But it just means staying resilient; keep searching and applying because you will find a match <3
@collegegirl7123 Being rejected from the corps program is not the end all, be all of your adventures into future career success. If you truly believe that you did well at final interview, then you probably did; sometimes things don’t make sense, but its important to recognize that you tried your hardest and be proud of how much effort you put in and how much you cared about this position. There will be many others in your life that you will be offered after this.
I understand your sadness very much. I was rejected from my current job the first time I applied, and I felt the same: great interview, interviewers loved me, all of it. Sometimes the timing isn’t right, but it doesn’t mean that you have failed because you weren’t accepted.
There are TONS of other programs that are wonderful, just like Teach For America. Look into them if you are truly passionate about this line of work and I guarantee you will find success. Don’t give up on yourself and how much you can offer a program when you really care about it. TFA may not have seen it this time, but others will.
Accepted!

I anyone a little unsure about joining? I talked to someone from my region and she told me I they wouldn’t know what positions will be available until February. She told me my subject might change once they know the job openings. I’m scared of accepting the offer then having to just accept any position that is available. I was wondering if it was just my region that is like this or if the other regions are the same.
My region director said that I wouldnt start interviewing till april but I’m flexible about what I’m going to teach already as I got 1-6 generalist. Talk to your director about your concerns, they’ll help! @teach901
@teach901 I’m in the exact same boat as you. I got 4-8 Generalist so I won’t know until I’m actually interviewing with the school what grade level OR subject I’ll be teaching…that’s quite a big range so I’m really nervous and frustrated that I really have no control…
@caroconcerta I talked to my director and she told me many people who had not considered teaching elementary are hesitant at first, but once they do it they love it! I really want to join the corps and I’m more in than out, but I’m really nervous about having to teach a subject I am not totally comfortable with. I’m really hoping more positions open up and I find one I really like.
@lakooh I hope everything works out for the both of us! My director told me some interviews are held during summer institute. I really hope I have an idea of what and where I’ll be teaching before summer institute. I thought they already had our placements, or at least an idea of where we would be placed, by the time of acceptance.
