I understand the sentiments. I’m assigned Special education k-12, so I won’t know which grade until interview time.
My POC told me they usually have a list of schools they work with for hiring. She pointed me to the list of school areas, and I did a blanket search on indeed to see which positions were already showing up for next year. Maybe you could get your regions list and do a quick search? To get an idea @teach901
@teach901 I initially was really hesitant but I decided to accept the position because I realized it doesn’t change the reason why I applied to TFA in the first place. I’m still very passionate about education and our children so even though I’ll have to reaaallllyy step out of my comfort zone, I know the next 2 years will be very memorable and rewarding!
Now I’m just a little worried about the content exam because I have no idea how to answer these teaching strategy questions…and I have to relearn all 4 core subjects from grades 4-8 because I definitely forgot all those algebra formulas and mitosis or meisosiisis…
@JPTEACH haha thankyou that’s really kind of you!! But I bought some study books so hopefully those will bring back some memories Good luck on your exams guys!
Hi all! I have been lurking in this thread for a while and decided to finally post. Congratulations to all of the 1DL, 2DL, and 3DLers who have made it thus far! You all’s excitement is encouraging and infectious. This thread seems to be less active than the previous years, but I still have hope that it will pick up. That being said, any 4DLers here with me? Today was the final day for our round of phone interviews and I was wondering how you guys felt yours went? We find out on the 2nd if we move on to final interviews. Surprisingly, I’m not nervous. The phone interview went a lot better than expected and was not as awkward as I initially prepared for.
I also applied for the 4th deadline and I felt that my interview was okay. Not bad or good. I was surprised I received an interview because I was rejected at first but they sent me another email that they looked at my application again. I hope that this will be a good sign!
I applied for the 4th deadline. I thought I completely bombed(my sister overheard some parts and said I was horrible) the phone interview but I got accepted to the final interview. I’m absolutely shocked but excited. Did anyone else make it?
Congratulations! I made it as well. I initially thought my phone interview went great, but then I kept beating myself up over some responses and it made me a bit less confident haha.
I also applied for the fourth deadline. After an interview I thought could have gone better (but also could have been worse), I was accepted to a final interview! Anyone have any tips for the interview?
Hello, congratulations on being called in for the final interview. I am a 2015 Corp Member placed on the Big Island of Hawaii. The final interview is intimidating in a lot of ways, but if you are prepared and you stay calm you will do great. My final interview was in LA. The first part of the interview is the mini 5 minute lesson. Don’t over think this, just give a quick lesson on something simple. Follow the lesson format of I do, we do, you do. Make sure you hit 5 minutes, you cannot go over.
Next is the group interview, this situation sucks if you have a big group like I did. Do you best to give input on the issue addressed. Be sure that your answer always focuses on educational equity and students rights.
Lastly is the 1:1 interview. This one is the most laid back in my opinion. The interviewer will transcribe everything you say, so regardless of being visibly nervous or not, its your words that will count. Be sure to always answer with that you believe every single child deserves the right to a quality education regardless of where he or she was born. This is key. Education equity is your life now, breathe it in and out. Make sure you get across to them that you are willing to do anything to live out this goal. And trust me, you will have to. Joining TFA has changed my life in so many amazing ways, it truly takes a strong and determined individual to handle it all. It’s a huge responsibility that will take a lot of work and time.
Good luck!!!
Out of curiosity, what regions are people putting to be place in?
Thanks so much for the advice!! My top choice is the NC Piedmont area, although my complete list varies. Hawaii is included somewhere on the list, as well as Miami and Atlanta. How is Hawaii? I’m dying to know. At one point, this was one of my top choices.
Definitely agree with @2015HICM . Follow the " I do, we do, you do " format.
They want to see how well you can manage the class, if you can smoothly transition between each activity, if you have a strong teacher’s voice, and if you can give clear instructions.
And as for the lesson, make it simple and fun. You’re not necessarily trying to prove how smart you are so just choose something you’re genuinely interested in. This one girl did a lesson on making paper puppets and another did a lesson on basic sign language. They were both very simple, interactive, and fun, and they were still able to showcase their teaching skills very well.
