I was there when one of my friends received her notification last deadline around 10am central because her region jumped the gun in welcoming her. So it could be even earlier than what @93Polarbear is saying.
Hi all - does anybody else’s status on their main page still say “congrats you can now sign up for your final interview date and time?” I’m not talking about transitional funding, just at the top of the main page. I interviewed already on Feb 25th. I feel like thats a bad sign
Awesome details @TFA2016AJ !!! Thanks for sharing!!
Hey @july31 ! Mine says that as well- I think that’s what everyone’s should say until they change it again on Thursday… Like if you had a phone interview it said congrats on that until the day of notifications for the final interview. So I wouldn’t worry about that- sounds pretty normal for everyone to see! Did you apply for transitional funding? Sounds like that’s the only place you may see any change whatsoever before the big day…everything else should look the same as it did when you got invited to final interviews!
@TFA2016LD thanks for your response - nope didn’t apply for transitional funding
I was hoping to tweak the current Decision Day “survey” trend so that future applicants have a clearer and more completed picture of those who were accepted vs not. I figured I would post this now so we could collaborate as a group and figure out what information to add and/or take away so we could have a final draft by Thursday.
Some information I decided to leave out is interview location. The location seemed to have no correlation with TF updates + I also think it will serve to better protect identities. I know some people shared detailed final interview experiences (including the negative) & it’s easy to identify others that may have interviewed with you. I know for sure in one thread, people were able to identify each other.
Some information I considered adding were GPA, leadership experience, & type of school attended (Ivy, top tier state school, small private, etc) because a lot of previous threads have had inquisitive minds & wondered how that played into the decision, however; I decided against it because whether you were accepted or not, you made it this far in the process so I think it’s safe to say that if any of those things had a negative bearing on the decision, you would have not moved forward in the process. If you guys feel it is helpful info for future applicants, by all means, add it to the survey. I also left out the first letter of your last name because TF updates seem to have no correlation with that. I do not believe it is done alphabetically.
If anyone is curious as to why I added certain questions, the reasons are as followed:
1) There is speculation that those who were recruited or recommended automatically skip the phone interview so it would be nice to have a sample of data about it.
2) A lot of applicants that are not the typical college senior are concerned with their chances of acceptance.
3) Also, there have been naysayers that claim TFA is biased against those that are already teachers. Once again, it would be nice to have some sample data to accompany or dismantle that statement.
4) Everyone is curious during the process about the likely hood of getting their number one choice in subject & region or their highly preferred. It would be awesome to paint a clearer picture of how many got their top choice vs least preferred.
5) Finally, I figured adding our deadline would be beneficial for future readers. After reading through so many threads, everything starts getting jumbled together. Also, I figured it would be useful in the sense of determining if later deadline applicants still have a decent chance of getting their highly preferred regions + subjects.
I know it is fairly lengthy but I so wish previous threads had more detailed surveys so that so many of my questions were not left unanswered haha.

-What is your backup plan?:
-If you plan to reapply, what will you do to strengthen your application?:
-What year and which deadline do you plan on reapplying to?:
That’s looks great @TFA2016AJ ! I thought the same thing when going through previous years- I kept wishing people would be more specific on certain things they said! I would have loved to see something this detailed in previous threads!
I’m getting really nervous now! I think I got myself too excited that I was asked for additional documentation. I shouldn’t have gotten myself excited like that, because if it doesn’t work out I’ll be really bummed.
As I mentioned before there’s also a google doc in the TFA 2015 thread with the same information, very offical stuff lol. I can go back and try to find it and post it here but I think actually having it IN the thread the way @TFA2016AJ has it is even more helpful! I think we should add whether or not people indicated Special Circumstances, there were a few new-comers to this thread who asked about it too. Future applicants may wonder about that as well.
IT’S ALMOST TIME GUYS!! Just a few days!!
Found it! Link above if you’re interested. Copying & pasting the link creates an error so just replace where it says [dot] with an actual one (.) and it’ll work just fine!
Yeah, I saw this document as well, but it was literally the same information as what was in the thread. @shellijax223 Also, special circumstances is the last question under the placement section. I think this doc idea is good though. If there was a way we could condense our new survey into a document, that would be cool.
@awesomebins don’t start thinking too negatively now! I think you have a good chance. Remember, admissions makes their decisions then they pass off the pile to transitional funding. If your app ended up there where they were asking for additional documents, you have a really STRONG chance. Nothing is final until Thursday, but keep thinking positively.
I know how you feel, @awesome, but we have to stay positive! I guess we’ll know in less than 72 hours.
Yeah, I’m trying to stay positive! I almost wish decisions were on a rolling basis so I didn’t dread the decision day LoL
I haven’t heard back on TF at all yet. I’m basing my hope, however misguided, on the fact that I’ve only seen 1 or 2 people who were invited straight to the final and didn’t get accepted in the end.
I wish I had some more insight about the interview process after acceptance with schools- I know specifically how it works, I just want to know if the rumor about having to accept a job offer from the first school that offers you one is true. I also wonder if we have to submit resumes/apps to EVERY partnered school in our region, or if we can select schools.
I came across the accepted members site for my top choice in region thus, I got a list of all of the schools they are currently partnered with. I’ve spent over 20 hours reading reviews of all of the schools, determining where they are within the region and have ranked them. Thing is, when I went searching for current job openings within the school district, there didn’t seem to be any in my top subject preference. I wonder if spots will open up once this school year ends. This makes me nervous. Thinking about acceptance or rejection already has me on edge, but thinking about acceptance & facing the reality of maybe not getting my top choice in region or subject worries me as well. I’m worried about every aspect of this.
I can say, one thing I am no longer worried about are the negative opinions on TFA. Everybody has an opinion yet I’ve seen a good 96% of those negative people doing NOTHING to bridge the achievement gap besides bash orgs & people that are trying. I think about things like Obama Care and Planned Parenthood & realize there will always be people that disagree. Should I be accepted, I am comfortable with standing behind TFA 100%.
Hi all,
I hope you’re all getting through the last few days of waiting to hear the big decision!
I just thought I’d weigh in although I’m not sure how helpful I can be. I applied for early notification and found out on March 8 at 4:39pm ET I was accepted by a generic email and then a call from the placement region. My highly preferred regions were Colorado, South Dakota, and New Mexico. I have a big interest in working with the native population. I got my tied-for #1 choice of South Dakota. The email did not tell me what level I was placed in, but my regional call told me high school English (which was also my highly preferred subject level).
I did not apply for transitional funding so cannot help with that inquiry. However, my page still has the “Congratulations you can sign up for final interview” message, and my other documents look exactly the same as they were prior to the interview.
It really does seem like it’s a holistic approach to admission decision. I applied 5 years ago and was ultimately rejected after getting through the final interview round-- then I had my undergrad and one year of AmeriCorps under my belt but not much leadership experience or experiences working with low-income neighborhoods. This time I was invited straight through to the final interview without a phone interview. I have my MSW and am 27. I also did two years of service with AmeriCorps and led one of the graduate student organizations on my campus.
My interview day was mixed almost half and half with current seniors in college and some older, working professionals. Everyone there had great lessons and had very interesting perspectives in the group activity. It was a really great interview day and group!
Hope this helps! Good luck hearing back in a couple of days!
I’ll also start the survey TF2016AJ created to be helpful to future applicants!

@TFA2016AJ I didn’t know we had to interview after. I remember reading an article from several years back and the girl said when she found out she was accepted, she got her region, grade level, subject and school. Is this not the case anymore?
How likely do you guys think it is to get our first ranked assignment preference? If it was marked as green? So not high priority region but not a popular region either. I marked that I would teach eled, special ed, or ESOL. Hopefully the special ed component will help me get where I want.
Also very nervous for the next 24 hours!!! ALMOST THERE GUYS
