Teach For America-2017 Corps

Also in!

I’m in! But I haven’t received an email or anything, I just logged into my TFA application. Did ya’ll receive an email yet? Do you have a location or is that TBD? And do you have any locations blocked off on the TFA locations map?
Congrats!

Me too!!! Oh my goodness maybe it is possible that the ASSIGNMENT meant that every single one of us was in, that is crazy

Hi! I’ve been lurking for about two weeks (lol) and was accepted today for the 2017 corps! To ease the minds of the next round of interviews I also had the assignment code and others listed above as well. Congrats to everyone so far you all are great!

Assignment = IN!!! at least in my case, and apparently everyone else’s? Congrats to all!

To ease the mind of those in the future, I HAD NOTHING. I was here reading everyone’s messages, sulking, text my wife that I probably didn’t get in haha. So again, I think that if you have no change in your application, it means nothing, you can still get in! For the record, I did not apply for transitional funding.

Congrats to this most recent group of applicants! We seriously must have been a top notch group

@Nitrous were you checking the code for your profile page or your applicant center page? that makes a difference! but CONGRATS!!!

Congratulations everyone!!! What region are you guys looking into??

@SDMNJ07 Im hoping to be placed in California Capital Valley. I’m from the area and I’m also hoping they’ll honor a special circumstance for some family issues that just popped up in the last few days. Where are you considering?

I’m thinking Charlotte.

Congrats on everyone who got in!! I just applied for the 2018 corps early action and I am waiting to hear back about an interview. Does anyone know how many people are weeded out before the interview process? Or how much my chances increase of getting accepted if I land an interview? I loved reading everyones stories about waiting to get in and your personal interview process. Makes my heart warm to see people who care about serving low-income students via education just like me.

My daughter was just accepted to TFA this round. I have not been very involved in this process at all, and figured since it was so highly competitive, she might not even be accepted. I have been reading like crazy whenever I had a break today. I have seen pros and cons. One thing that I am curious about is whether TFA teachers really make ends meet between the cost of move, certification, tests, graduate work, rent, food, etc. It looks to me that in some areas this might actually cost money to do. Does anyone have insight into this?

@oldUVAgrad Teach for America offers Transitional Funding for corps members which helps to cover the cost associated with relocating to your region!

@oldUVAgrad I spoke with a regional assistant with TFA and “making ends meet” will vary drastically by region. There is a ton of information that was emailed to your daughter that will be incredibly helpful when deciding which region would be best for her needs, desires and passions. If you have any specific questions, definitely look at the emailed resources and spreadsheets. You can also contact a regional advisor! Hope that helped!

NorCalTFA, that is what I was seeing in my research, so I appreciate the confirmation. Good luck to you!!!

@PassionForChange Hey, I’m not exactly sure how many people do not get a chance at an interview, but I believe it is quite a big number. Then more get weeded out for the phone interview. Once you get to the final interview, you have a good chance of getting in I would say as long as you prepare. It is not competitive so you aren’t fighting for a spot. They accept anyone who meets the requirements they are looking for. Don’t get me wrong, it IS competitive in that they have a 10% acceptance (but you aren’t competing against others, just yourself), but once you are at the final interview stage if you just do your lesson without being nervous and in time, participate well in the group activity, and answer all questions STAR style in the one-on-one, you have a really strong chance.

Has anyone who applied during the January 27 deadline been notified if they are getting an interview or not? I don’t know what could be taking so long.

@Scrappypoo93 we should be hearing back today! I think 6PM is when they said they will be sending out an email to check your application page.

@Scrappypoo93 Check now! I just logged on to check and it says I got an interview!
