Teach For America-2017 Corps

Accepted!! I am so relieved and excited for the rest of this journey

I was accepted!

Accepted! Just received my email but I found out around 5:40pm. I have special circumstances and it looks like it will be honored. So stoked right now!!!

If you are accepted, what regions are you guys wanting to go to?

NYC… I live here now and can’t really leave

I’m from the great state of Texas  So Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio would be preferable.

Jrd1993 did you get in?

I’ve put in a special circumstances form to teach in Jacksonville, FL. They sound like they are willing to work with me. I just need to be sure that I am qualified to teach in Florida.

Hey all, this time is a really exciting time. I’m really hoping to get into Texas as well! I’m from Texas and moved out of state, so I’m looking to go home. I have the sites in order of preference for Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston. Can’t wait for assignment day!

Texas is high on my list as well. Is it true that you guys do not have a state tax?

@HopefulSpedTeacher I was fortunate enough to receive an acceptance and congratulations to you!

@Twynn1 That’s right! No state income tax and the cost of living is relatively low compared to other major markets like NYC, LA, and DC.

I was recently accepted. Does anyone know if TFA honors special circumstances and/or places you in your first choice such as the region because I would love to stay here in Atlanta.

@studenttfa1 did you put a special circumstance in your initial application? I did, and it looks like it’s going to be honored.

I’m late to the discussions forum, but I was accepted to into the 2017 corps as well! I spoke with the assignment consultant yesterday and we went over the regions that she feels may be the best fit for me and she was spot on. My top 3 regions that I listed were Dallas, Charlotte, and Memphis. I’m praying for Texas though; as a native Texan, there’s no place like home

@ddbowens I can’t definitely understand that. I’m really hoping to go back to Texas. Been away from home for far too long.

I spoke to my assignment consultant as well. He didn’t suggest any regions to me because I was very adamant in being placed in Atlanta. I chose that as my only preferred one. Any other region for me right now is out of the question

@FSUforTFA Yeah, I’m just curious as to where I will be placed come November 4th, which is the day I think the assignment consultant said we would find out our placements. I hoping for the best.

I already know where I’m being placed, but I’m curious about what subject I’m going to be assigned. This is all exciting and scary at the same time!

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far! I signed up for my interview today, it’s going to be on 11/11. Waiting 4 more weeks to find out if I’m getting in is going to be no fun at all :frowning: I just made a screenshot of the current code, and I’m going to be obsessively checking it after my interview to see if it changes.

What did everyone do for their sample lesson plan? I’m thinking of reading a story. I’m doing the virtual interview which kind of limits my options. I’m a preschool teacher, and I want to read my students’ favorite book. It’s interactive and fun, and I have it down pretty well. Do you think doing story time would be too simple?

I don’t think it would be too simple, but I do think they want you to actually teach something and be able to assess that they learned it. What would be your objective? I think reading would work if it’s one of those books that focuses on a specific color, then you would have taught them how to identify the color blue.
