I’m so glad to hear everyone is happy with their regions. I got Southwest Ohio, which is my hometown. I’m a little older and got into the college game rather late, so there’s just something about moving back home in my late 20s that just feels like taking a step back for me. I’m a little heart broken because I thought this would be a good move, putting it on my list. But, I’m having a little bit of buyer’s remorse, I guess you could say.
Congrats to everyone and I hope everyone is successful throughout their journey in TFA. It’s sad to say but I have to decline my offer with them as they came back and said that I cannot teach in Memphis.
@TFAmemphis18 They said this after they had already assigned you to Memphis?? What was their reasoning??
I’m sorry to hear that, @TFAmemphis18. But, something that does work for you and your family will come up soon, I’m sure!
@Ranza123 yes, I accepted the offer and anything Monday. Then they called yesterday and said it was an error because TN won’t allow me to teach here because of my undergrad gpa which is a 2.7 and they won’t consider my graduate gpa which is 4.0. That’s Tennessee and their nonsense laws though! @HopingForTFA2019 thanks for the encouraging words. It’s real a slap in the face to get excited for nothing.
@TFAmemphis18 I understand. I’m leaning towards declining because of my region. While it’s not the same situation, I do understand the feeling of getting so excited, and then let down by the final decision. But, you have an amazing graduate GPA and that is already going to put you on a path for success!!
@HopingForTFA2019 Do what you feel is best because you don’t want to accept then not like it. I wish you success in whatever you do. And thanks again!
Hi anyone here apply ED for 2019? I applied 4/13/19 and my interview was yesterday. At the end of the interview she told me it was clear I had a passion for service which I’m hoping is a good sign! We hear back may 21st!
Hello, so I just got into the 2019 corps early and am looking to submit my preferences, but had to put a special circumstance that I don’t drive/can’t drive and it wants me to pick a region. Is there any certain way I should go about it? Do folks typically get their special circumstances region?
Hey guys! So I’m an early admit and I saw on the application portal that it says: “Final admission to the 2019 corps and this assignment are contingent upon your meeting all requirements to teach as a member of our corps, including: passing all coursework indicated on your transcript as “in progress” at the time of your interview”. I dropped one of my in-progress classes, it is indicated on my transcript as DR now, because my advisor told me I don’t have to go through with it because the class was a requirement for a different track within my major. I didn’t fail so am I still OK as per the requirement above?
@TFAApplicant2019 I think the only way that dropping a class that was listed as “in progress” during your acceptance would be hurtful is if that class was related to the subject you wish to teach. They use our specific classes to determine what subjects we are available to teach in the different states. So, theoretically, if you needed 5 English classes to teach high school English in Phoenix, and you dropped one of those English classes, you would no longer be qualified to teach that subject in that region and that would cause issues with your placement. If it was a course unrelated to a subject you want to teach, you should be okay, but I would still speak with an actual TFA adviser.
