@TFA2020 I did the webinar too! Definitely a bit nerve wracking–like I don’t think it’s going to be impossible to do well, but there are so many components!
@tfheyyyy Totally getting cold feet about my lesson plan. lol. I spent a bunch of time on it and now I’m not even sure that I like it. What day are you interviewing? Also, how are you including the class in the lesson? I’m asking them a few questions throughout and then going through a scenario as a class at the end, but I feel kinda bad I’m not doing anything super crazy memorable. I guess I don’t want it to be gimmicky though. Yeah, it was nice to get more info about the interview but there’s so much to it haha. The statistic about how 45% of people who interview get accepted is pretty helpful though. I’m just excited to have it done honestly!
@TFA2020 Whoa they didn’t give me that statistic! That’s amazing and definitely comforting, haha. I’m interviewing on Monday. I’m thinking I might change my lesson plan to teaching choral conducting – just basic stuff in 4/4 time. I’d have them conduct with me to a few different songs and then basically drop out and have them do it on their own, so it’d be very physically involved. I do have a whole thing prepped on Italian verbs though, so I’m not sure. What about you? What are you teaching?
@tfheyyyy I think both of those lessons sound really unique! I’m sure whatever you choose will be good. I’m doing a basic journalism lesson on how to how to ask effective interview questions. Mine is going to be virtual so I can’t really have them pair up or anything, which kind of sucks lol. But I’m interviewing on Monday too! I’m excited to hear how everyone’s goes.
For every one that interviewed yesterday, how was it? Also good luck to anyone who is interviewing today!
I also got an interview and I interview tomorrow in NYC as well. Best of luck to you! Hope your interview goes well (:
I did my interview on Monday night!
It went pretty well, I did one of the individual virtual interviews so I think it was a little different than most people’s. There was still the lesson, but then also a role-play and then questions. The questions were pretty formulaic which was kind of scary but the woman interviewing me was really nice. Doing the lesson also wasn’t nearly as scary as I felt it was going to be I did run out of time at the very end because she asked me a question earlier on, so I would recommend leaving at least a minute of buffer time (I usually had 30 seconds buffer time when I practiced). Good luck to all of you if you haven’t done your interviews yet, I would love to hear how they all go!!
I did my interview in person in NYC on Monday. It went really well–my lesson was, thankfully, within the time limit and hopefully effective, and I think the group activity went well. The individual interview was a bit more difficult, because my interviewer was very hard to read, but I feel good about the answers I gave!
I interviewed virtually today. I think my lesson went pretty well. I was not as vocal in the group discussion, but I was asked more about it during the personal interview where I could say more. I can’t tell how my personal interview went. I thought it was okay, but it was really hard to read the interviewer.
I wish everyone the best of luck. At least we will all find out soon. I will update this forum if anything changes on my screen (I noticed there were screen changes on some of the previous cycles…although I have no idea what the screen changes mean)
Is anyone else not able to see what regions they’re eligible to teach in? I know that with my GPA and coursework I should be eligible in at least a few regions, but it’s not showing me any.
@tfheyyyy You have to mainly input all the courses that you’ve taken. Then it’ll let you see what you’re qualified to teach and what regions.
Just a follow up on my last comment, I am so dumb and didn’t hit submit when I entered my coursework lmao, all is well!!! What is everyone ranking as their top choices?
I did my choices last night! I put special circumstances for Massachusetts , so the rest of the ones I chose are in “preferred”/“would consider.” I also put Rhode Island and Connecticut near the top although idk if I could make them work honestly. So I’m really hoping for Boston! Then for classroom preferences I put high school english and history as well as middle school-generalist in my top. I assume generalist means english/history since math and science were separate? I also put elementary, early childhood, and ESL in my preferred. I love younger kids but it’s unrealistic that I could come out to them without a lot of backlash and I want to be as open as possible with my students! What about you guys, what did you pick?
That’s so exciting! I put Rhode Island, Philadelphia, and Massachusetts at the top, but I also put special circumstances for LGBT reasons (obv we need to be in a place that is culturally safe and we will have access to good healthcare). I put elementary and pretty much any english/history placement in my most preferred as well as ESL. Yeeeeesh this is all so exciting, but so nerve wracking!
Just curious if any of your source codes changed or what it is saying. I saw some stuff in previous chains when a lot of people who had the “accept” or “decline” offer in their source code tended to get accepted. I certainly hope not given that I don’t see that in my source code
Good luck everyone… just a little less than two weeks now.
I’m not sure exactly what the source code would look like if mine had the accept/decline offer, but I don’t think it’s changed at all. The region decision deadline hasn’t even closed yet so I assume they won’t even be making any decisions until after that closes! I’m ready just to know already.
Ha, I am ready to know too.
I was fairly optimistic of my chances prior to the interview, but didn’t feel as good after the interview.
Yeah, I’m not sure if we’d know this early, but if anything changes on your pages in the meantime, post it here!
For sure, I have been checking every day. If I see a change, I will let you all know. Please do the same everyone.
