The college that im applying to requires a teacher recommendation that is about a page long. Common app allows your to submit a teacher evaluation which some people said is the same a a recommendation. The college also allows you to use their online application, in which they provide no format for a recommendation. Should i just ask my teacher to write me a long recommendation instead of using the common app evaluation?

The traditional letter of recommendation is considered to be the same as the common application’s teacher evaluation. It’s easier for teachers to use the common app, because you will be able to send out their evaluation to a multitude of schools.

However, I would advise you to call admissions to see if this is okay.

thanks for the reply. I found a format for the recommendation on the colleges website.

can the recommendation be mailed before i apply? im not applying till december 1st cause im still waiting for SAT scores, but what will happen if the teacher mails it before december 1st?

The university makes a file for you and places recommendations, forms, etc. in there, so they won’t review your app until all forms and scores are sent in. You don’t need to worry if your teacher sends it in before Dec 1st. Better early than late ;)
