Teacher Letters of Recommendation

In May of this year I asked my AP Language and Composition teacher for a letter of recommendation. He gladly consented. In October he asked me to give him envelopes with stamps so that he could send in my letter of recommendation to the schools to which I was applying. I did as he asked. He later told me that he had sent the letters to the school.

It is literally days away from my college application deadlines. However, when I checked on Naviance for his letter of recommendation I was shocked to see that his letter was incomplete. No where on the Common App did it even signify that my teacher's letter of recommendation was part of my application. I have not received any emails of notification from any of the colleges the letter should have been sent to regarding whether or not the letter has been received.

What I find now on my Common App is that two letters of recommendation, one from my AP World History teacher (Sophomore year) and another from my AP US History teacher (Junior year) will be sent instead. Although both of them wrote beautiful letters for me, I am concerned over the fact that they are both from the same subject and one is a teacher I had Sophomore year.

What should I do?

Since he sent the LORs directly to the school, it’s not as if the recipient college is going to go back and inform Naviance or Common App that it was added to your file in their offices. You’re fine.

If it gives you peace of mind, you can call colleges when their admissions offices reopen in January to make sure they have received his letters. But T26E4 is right, they have.
