The consensus seems to be that it's okay for teachers to send in their recommendation before you send the application. Stanford, specifically, though, posted warnings on their website asking you to "submit the Common App. and supplement as soon as you know you will be applying, so we can open a folder for you." I don't think I'll be able to do that very soon, especially since Stanford is one of the ones that requires the CA and supplement at the same time, and has an extensive supplement.

Do you think it'll be okay to have the teacher rec in first, even for Stanford?

Yes. I called them and I was told that recs can come in before the
actual app. Stanford keeps such recs ina bin and when your
application comes in they match up the other docs including the
recs. :)

I have another question about teacher recs. Stanford says both teachers must be from grades 11 or 12. I have a 10th grade teacher who I want to write my rec. Technically, she is also a 12th grade teacher because I will take her class second semester senior year. Will Stanford let me use her rec?

Ok I just called the number above. Basically the guy said it was a borderline case, but he would let me do use that rec, in case anyone else wanted to know.
