Teacher Recommendations HELP

Hi, I had a question regarding teacher recommendations.

I know that many highly selective schools require two teacher recommendations and that a lot of people strongly suggest recommendations from your 11/12th grade teacher.

I was wondering that if I were to ask for a recommendation from my 10th grade English
teacher, would this be a bad idea? He was the one who chose me for the English 10 Honors Award in sophomore year, and I heard he writes stellar recommendations.

I was originally going to ask my Pre Calculus Honors teacher (Junior Year), and he wrote me one, but it wasn't very well written. I know that it is recommended for students to ask a math/science and english/history teacher. The math teachers and science teachers I have had all had good things to say, but their recommendations weren't very well written.

Thus, I would have a recommendation from my AP Eng teacher from Junior Year and another English teacher recommendation from sophomore if I were to ask him. Is it a bad idea since it's back in 10th grade? I just think having a good recommendation is better even if it is from 10th grade, rather than one that isn't as well written from 11th grade.

I'm still unsure though. I have my 12th grade AP Physics teacher in mind as a person I should also ask, but I am sending in my applications soon, so he probably doesn't know
me well enough just yet to be able to write a good recommendation.

Thank you so much! Please reply soon. I need to make a decision..

First of all, I think it’s weird that you have read all of your recommendations. Note that even if a recommendation is poorly written, as long as it has meaningful (and complimentary) things to say about you, then it’s a great recommendation.

I would, however, pretty strongly advise against getting your 10th grade teacher to write it for you. Who you were in 10th grade is hopefully a very different person than you are now/will be as a freshman in college. If the recommendation were from another HUMANITIES subject, like social studies, then I would say the humanities vs. math/science thing is not a big deal, but for both of them to be from the exact same subject (English) is not going to say much about how versatile you are as a student.

We asked the 10th grade English teacher (DS had in 8th grade also). She thought highly of him so we thought she would write a good letter (and also know how to write:)).

I would advise against having 2 English teachers though.
