Teacher Recommendations

For applying to college I really want two teachers to write my recommendation letters, but I don't know if they're the right teachers to ask?

The first one has actually never taught me (but she will next year for my senior year). She is an AP Literature teacher and the advisor of the school paper. I have written on the paper for four years (I'm Editor in Chief now) and have really established a good relationship and I know she sees me as a hard worker and good writer.

The second one teaches AP Art History (does that count as an "academic class," like it says on the common app?) and I have an A+ so far. I worked with her to design the posters for my school's theater productions and she also wrote my recommendation letter for the pre-college RISD program that I will be attending.

So: do you have to send a recommendation letter from a teacher that has taught you for several classes? And is Art History considered an "academic class?"
