Hey, sorry, this question does not belong SPECIFICALLY in the UNC Thread, but it is related (I didn't know where else to put it). I don't understand how teacher recommendations work, which colleges in NC take the letters and which colleges in NC take the online application? (I'm applying to pretty much all NC Schools.)

Thank you =)

Depending on the school, some of them may have an online form for a teacher to fill out. I think UNC had me provide my teacher’s email, and they were sent a recommendation form. As for other schools, they might have you mail in the letters or use the Common App. If you send the letters through the Common App, you have to send them a form through that. Just look on the applications.

No UNC system school uses the Common App. UNC-Chapel Hill allows use of CFNC app, but would really prefer you use the one found on my.unc.edu

UNC will email ONE teacher whose email address you provide, providing them directions for how to submit an electronic letter of rec. You will then have to submit a counselor statement, which is basically a letter of rec. by your guidance counselor, on paper. It is usually sent with the transcript, but you must download it, print it, and hand it to them, and then put it in the mail.

Most other UNC system schools do not require letters of rec, but I’m not sure about NC State. Duke requires letters of rec. I used the common app ones for it.

All schools in NC accept transcripts submitted electronically via CFNC, but UNC generally prefers the paper transcript from what I have been told by admissions last year.

I would submit your transcript on paper through your school - last year, I had a few friends who submitted theirs through CFNC & the transcripts never made it to UNC. Apparently it was a problem for a lot of transcripts on CFNC, so it wasn’t held against anyone, but I was thankful I sent mine straight from my school.
