teacher recommendtions to only 3 schools?

I've been seeing lots of threads regarding teacher recs lately and a question of my own popped up.

As I understood it, you ask 2-3 teachers for recs, have them print multiple copies, and have them mail it to all the schools to which you are applying. However, a friend of mine recently told me that teachers will only send the same letter to up to 3 schools -- something about it being too much work if they send it to say..8 schools (he quoted a few teachers on this). I've never heard of this before, nor can I imagine how much more work it would be to simply print out more copies and stick them into the envelopes.

Am I missing something here? Is this a common issue? Aren't teachers SUPPOSED to send the letters to all the schools you're applying to -- or am I just completely ignorant of the college application process?

It would be an issue because I have 3 really good teachers in mind for my recs. However, I'm applying to 8-10 schools (HYPS included) and would really like to use their recs for all of my choices. If the sending to three schools only matter is true, then does that mean I'll have to find more teachers to write additional recs for my other college choices?

I’ve never heard of that happening. At my school, teachers give recommendations to the guidance office, which copies them and sends them to your colleges.

In any case, you could give all of your teachers stamped and addressed envelopes to make it easier for them.
