What is the recommendation process like for teachers after you assign them in the common app? Ex, is there a word limit? Do they also give info alongside the letter of rec, like a rating or something?
There’s no word limit, but the reality of writing 30 or 40 such letters imposes a limit of its own. (I’m kinda hoping you’re a Junior. Otherwise, you’re asking a teacher to write a letter NOW-- the week before Thanksgiving?? It’s going to be rushed, and not his/her best work.)
I upload mine to Naviance. Then I fill out a checklist on the Common App, rating each student on a scale using ratings like “below average/ average/ above average/ superior/ among the best I’ve ever taught”
But I wrote my letters last summer, and filled out those surveys when the Common App went live in August for this year’s seniors.
