Teacher Recs

I have two teacher recs and one supplemental rec from a doctor I worked with. Some of my colleges require only 1 rec while others require 3. I was thinking about just submitting all three recs to every college. Do you think it is better to submit more than the required teacher recomendations for a college? Are there any cons to doing this?

You should really only send what they ask for unless you feel it will really add something to your application and you have a strong reason to include it. For example, if a college requires one rec, you may want to send one from a teacher and another from the doctor, depending on your relationship with him.

Ask the colleges. My son emailed all his schools, and some said they only wanted X, and others would take as many as you want to send. No school said they only wanted what they asked for - usually they will take one or two more. OTOH, they only want extra if it really is somethign different - like in your instance the Doctor's ref.

DD sent in 3 letters to USC that only requires one letter. USC said it's ok.

3 is usually fine, but good to check with college. 3 is usually the max

thanks a lot

I have a question about the Common App teacher recs. Is it okay if my teachers wrote me letters instead of filling out the common app form??

(on the form it says that "a photocopy of this reference form or another reference you may have prepared on behalf of this student is acceptable" however my friend said that you have to submit the form) ... help!
