What sort of thing is appropriate? Any creative ideas? (:

I got mine a candle. I think it was only five dollars but it was very pretty. Appropriate? I don't know. It's too late for me now.

I'm thinking about giving the teachers who are writing my recs a framed photo that I've taken and developed (black and white 35 mm) of something related to their subject, and a card with a personal message... I don't know if that's cheap (or maybe just lame), but it feels as if that would be more meaningful than buying some generic gift.

i've been thinking about mine, but my aunt owns a food related business, which involves great, nicely-packaged teacher gifts

i actually saw someone give pumpkin plants last year (i thought it was very funny)

I gave mine a well-written thank you note and a $10 gift certificate to Border's Book Store. I would say don't spend more than that because it may come across as "buying a rec." Just show your appreciation. They don't expect more than a nice hand-written note.

Well, I've had one of mine for four years (8th, 10th, 11th, 12th) and the other one for three (9th, 11th, 12th), and the first one was also my Extended Essay advisor... so I think something more than a note is warranted. Anyway, I wasn't going to give them anything until after the recs were sent, so I don't think there's any danger that it'll look like bribery.

i am like cameliasinensis... (my teachers for 5, 4 and 2 years respectively) so I don't know what to get that would be sufficiently meaningful or a nice gift - I hate picking out gifts. Especially since 2 of them are guys. what to get... *sigh *

starbucks gift certificates might be a good idea? a nice notepad?

Most teachers really appreciate gift cards from a bookstore like Barnes & Noble or Borders or even amazon.com.
