Teen who was going to move for college on Monday gets fatally shot by cop 10 times

I recently heard news about an 18 year old Michael Brown who was walking on the sidewalk with a friend and got fatally shot by the police...I can't help but cry over it.

"A news conference was held simultaneously in a different building. There, St. Louis County Police Jon Belmar said the incident began when the officer encountered two men on the street near an apartment complex on Saturday afternoon in a predominantly black suburb a few miles north of downtown St. Louis."

What do you guys think about this incident? It breaks my heart how the boy was about to go to college the very next day...and now he won't.

Just another of many. It’s disgusting. We’re just seeing more and more of these hit national news, not an actual increase in unarmed / petty crime / innocent deaths or shootings. I can name 4 of these in the past year 50 miles or less from me. Hopefully the national attention does something but honestly I don’t have the slightest clue what should be done about this. It’s been happening for decades in this fashion and the root of the problem is way too far back.

Even with better culture, it only takes a few people to keep this going, and those people tend to be drawn to law enforcement. Getting rid of it entirely is incredibly hard. I would love to see federal mandatory minimums for cops and unarmed shootings / killings. That would be some great irony.

It’s a terrible part of our culture. Attention to these incidents will do something, but I think we need to look at better solutions to the problem. In 95% percent of these incidents, nothing more than paid leave or desk duty for a week is given to the cops.

“We’re outraged because yet again a young African-American man has been killed by law enforcement,” said John Gaskin, who serves on both the St. Louis County and national boards of directors for the NAACP. “This is an issue everywhere in America. You never believe that this can happen in your town.”

Most people here probably don’t realize this happens in your town even. The police have become very good at sweeping these things under the rug if you don’t look for it.

So tragic. Something is amiss with the officers story. Apparently the FBI has been deployed to investigate.

More details, this thing is exploding.
