Telecommunications degree?

I am in love with anything that pertains to film, albeit watching and forming a 10 page paper analyzing filming techniques about a movie or directing a crew to create a short film. I’m under the impression that becoming a film major does not have immense value (whether that is a right or wrong belief is irrelevant) and I began to view the telecommunications production major as something that I may want to delve into and am wondering, what can you actually do with a telecommunications degree? What does a telecommunications degree entail? I have the typical parents who want me to do a STEM major and become a doctor or engineer of that sort and while I am competent enough in the science fields, my passion is with film.

tl;dr Parents are Asian so they want STEM. I love film but a film major doesn’t seem practical in the “real world” and would probably make fam mad so interested in telecommunications (at least it sounds better). Asking to see what telecommunication is about and whether its worth pursing.

Looks like fun to me…

I actually did look at the catalog description of the major, I was hoping to get some personal experience from those who were actually in telecommunications and hopefully hear from some graduates who did telecommunications and whether the jobs they eventually achieved are something I would like to obtain as well.
