Do students apply for colleges at the same time they apply for a PG year? How do school college counseling offices take it when they know a student is looking at boarding schools and colleges? I would assume they wouldn’t advocate for the student as hard with college admissions.
Bueller?
It is usually, especially for the BS and college most discussed on thus site, an either/or, not both. Students decide that they want a PG for any number of reasons. They are on the young side or to improve academically / athletically or their old school did not prepare them for college are the most common.
Few are applying to both with the goal if taking the best offer.
Our goal would be to go for a PG year, but given the results of this year’s admissions, it seems like we should be applying to colleges just in case the PG year doesn’t happen. DC attends a private day school and they strongly encourage all students considering a gap year to apply to colleges and defer. So, given these two circumstances, we would likely be applying to BS and colleges at the same time. Getting some insight on the process from anyone who has gone through this situation would be much appreciated given that they would require two completely different mindsets.
