Tell me about UofA

I’m trying to get a handle on whether it could be a good fit for my D25. She’s a stellar student and hard worker. One of those kids that’s wired to always do her best. Currently leaning towards engineering but that could change between now and enrollment.

D25 wants a lively, big, campus with lots of school spirit and sports. However, she doesn’t drink and while that might change when she goes to college, my belief is that she will possibly continue to abstain, but definitely not go nuts with it.

I’d love any feedback on campus life, if there’s plenty going on outside of traditional alcohol-fueled parties, what the honors college is like, etc. thanks!

I’d have to ask my niece who works there.

But I love it for the merit. My better half went there - she’s a nerd - and she’s all about Bear Down - and the football team is kicking butt.

At any large school - you’re going to have partiers and non.

It’s a very diverse school - and strong in engineering, especially aerospace.

I visited the Honors dorm which was awesome - really nice with a dining hall on the bottom and with a gym and counseling center adjacent.

If there are any specific questions - my niece is in some type of academic support and her husband in an advisor.

It’s a really nice campus, well laid out, has a little college street nearby and you can’t do better than Tucson.

I have no doubt that there’s a lot going on beyond boozing - but I think you can say that about most any flagship.

There are some very recent financial issues at the school. So there is going to be belt-tightening. The school leadership has said everything is on the table. So expect some combination of cuts to programs, smaller sports, and possibly financial aid.

Thank you!! Yes for sure there will be partying - heck there is at her high school! Very helpful information - I’m hoping she will take a serious look at it due to the merit available to a 4.0 AZ kid and the honors college sounds perfect!
