Alright, so my last topic may have been a bit broad... I understand that. Maybe it'd be easier and more informative if you all would just post about the school you attend (or visited, or WANT to attend, as is the case for many of us) and what you love/dislike about it. Also, maybe tell me about which school you'd rather run away and hide under a rock than attend.

Also, at livejournal there's a site:
boarding_school.livejournal.com

Basically pretty old, but it talks a lot about different boarding school experiences... we should get it back up and running again. Go make an account and join:]. I'm about to.

My school is Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, MA (western MA).

I love NMH because you can be anyone you want to be here. At my old school you were labeled. If they saw you performing on the athletic field, than they assumed you definitely were not good at math, or poetry. If they saw your name on a mathematics plaque, than they would assume you were no good at sports. Here, you can see someone make the winning touch down, and then see them a few days later talking about Model UN, or poetry. When someone says NMH is well-balanced, the really mean it. You don't have to be a single person here. You can try out different personas, be a hockey player, a writer, a scientist. Your teenaged years are about finding who you are, and NMH really supports and helps you to do that.

I also love this school because our campus is beautiful. As someone hailing from San Francisco, the foliage is a new and amazing experience for me. Everyday when I walk from my dorm to class, I am once again shocked by the beauty that encompasses our campus.

NMH is not an academic treadmill. We're a community first, and a school second. We strive to help each other as people, and as students. That's what makes our school so unique, and our students such strong and influential people on campus and off. I truly love it here, and even as a freshman cannot wait to spend four years of my life at Northfield Mount Hermon.

If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to send me a PM. I'm a tour guide, do panels for admissions, and am a student ambassador so I've got all of the facts down.

For a long time, I was REALLY interested in going to NMH, or at least applying and so on. I had heard great things, but the website didn't inform me of much. When I finally got my mother to look at it, she said I was not able to go because it was pure Christian. Is this true?

That is not at all true. We have a really diverse student body religiously, and even though NMH was founded by an evangelist christian, we have been non-denominational for quite a while.

:[. I regret just taking my mothers word for it. I eliminated many great schools because of my mom.

Ah, well... maybe I can convince them to let me look into it around mid-Nov.
