Penn State - the good AND the bad.

If you ever call it Penn people will think that you went to UPenn (or at least I will). So that could get annoying

Good - Well-respected academically, strong school spirit, everybody goes to football games, good business, science/engineering programs, very big school, parties
Bad - Very big school, parties (both depend on what you want), not known for social science/humanities or liberal arts, homogeneous student body, middle of nowhere. Terrible football uniforms - they don't even have the players' names. I get that they're making it a team thing not individual, but come on...

It's generally the other way around. If you say Penn most people will think you mean PSU.

Good - strong alumni network, upper level classes are sized well, huge selection of classes (but don't count on getting into the wine tasting or ballroom dancing classes...), daily newspaper, nice little town to walk to with all the amenities including barbers/hair salons, clothes shops, restaurants and bars. Dorm rooms come with a microwave and fridge.

Bad - impersonal. If you have trouble meeting people or making friends, it can be huge and lonely. Tickets to events such as big-name concerts aren't priced really low for the students. I think the dorms are over-crowded. The lounges have been converted to housing so there aren't study dorms on floors, for ex (speaking of West-East dorms). Bandwidth restrictions on the internet.
