Please tell me my chances at MIT( IHTFP), Princeton and Stanford.

What happened to your grades junior year? Is that sort of drop common in your school system at this point in time?

Don't be too depressed about the rejection from Caltech. They are said to pay a lot of attention to academic (/science) awards and you don't seem to have a lot. (Your top 10 National Science Olympiad placement was only school-wide and not national, was it?) Princeton and Stanford are more holistic and your list of non-scientific awards is quite impressive!

Damn, your stats are good enough. Don't hesitate, you will have a good school. Maybe it is difficult for Indians, because there are a lot of highly qualified students from there. Don't you have safeties?

Got into the safeties. ERAU with 9k scholarship and an invite to Honors Program and IIT, Chicago with 12k scholarship.
I won't be going to ERAU or IIT because of lack of funds. Is the profile good enough for an Aeronautical Enthusiast?

Two completely different areas. Aeronautical generally refers to maintenance of engines and other aircraft parts. So its like you are a special janitor or something.

Aerospace includes designing engines and the shape or hulls of the vehicles.

To be really frank you have slim to very low chances at Princeton and Stanford but since MIT goes beyond the ECs and has a really holistic approach, if your essays work, you might get in. But I won't bet on that either. How much aid do you require?

libindaniel2000,
You seem to have a plethora of ECs in the fields of entertainment, academics, and community service. Pretty awesome!

But while your list of ECs shows that you are well rounded, you need to know that colleges aren't impressed by sheer numbers of club involvement, but the degree of involvement in each club, and the experience gained from the participation. It's not your ECs that matter, but what you give to it, and what you learn from it.

My friend got accepted into Caltech with only 3 ECs: she played the Hawaiian guitar, taught under privileged children (which she wrote about in her commonapp essay) and worked as a co-ordinator for an award ceremony. Clearly her talents were not as diverse as your's but the Hawaiian Guitar did give her a fresh edge, and she was able to communicate what she'd learned from Community service pretty well in her essay, and that's what impressed the committee. (They hinted so on the acceptance letter they gave her!)

So unless you've been involved in something deeply which has taught you something meaningful, or unless you have some unique talent (like playing traditional Bengali songs on a Hawaiian guitar), don't count overly much on your ECs. Stuff like organizing campaigns and being member of <insert club="" name=""> won't make a difference at HYSP. You're job experience and debate competitions will. </insert>

If you had an SAT 2200 or above, I'd say you have a pretty good chance. But with something like 2060, you now have to rely on your ECs, school recommendations, and essays to tip the scales in your favor. I won't tell you what your chances are because nobody can say for sure. Do you have any hope of getting in? Of course! There's always hope.

P.S I got rejected from Caltech too, but am so over it right now.

Well...the Adolescence Club was responsible for the campaign and the workshops and Baldeep was responsible for all the church activities. I have been doing volunteer working for 4 years now and all the activities i.e. Adolescence Club and Baldeep have been emphasized in the essay.
SAT Score is low and I don't know the reason why. The plethora of sample papers always showed up the scores above 2150. Well, that's past. I think the American Embassy School was too beautiful.lol.
@ajayc- well, let me clear the air...Let it be Astronautics.lol. and you are a great chap too. You done with 12th?

I didnt apply to Caltech :D I couldnt finish the essays, and just gave up on it the last minute, after sending them my transcripts recs, etc . Lol

Based on your profile, you seem to be a very well balanced student. Don't worry about the Caltech rejection; I'm sure you're set for at least one better school.

WoOt! Its too good to be true. I have that sinking feeling that a year drop and IIT is calling me " Come Libin Come be a book worm"..lol...it's just so disheartening.
I think what hurts more is that you feel that the efforts you put in since beginning and that extra mile you went as compared to the Indian counterparts went waste.
I mean if we too had forsaken the beautiful literary books and the whole prospect of studying for SAT and preparing those unique and lovable essays, we could have been easily given a good shot to the JEE...it all seems wasted....seems like yet another feather in the plummet of failures.
