Tell me...tell me

I think there are: use a ton of fancy words, make it loooooong.

No problem. 2 hours? Lol. I spend at least 8-9 hours online! Just go look through the Class of 2012 and TiT :D The other Shruti? I have no idea. Initially I thought someone was trying to irritate me by posting with my name :D Your EC's are pretty well rounded. Detailed chances? I have no idea man! I think you have a good shot at the need blind colleges, but if you ask for aid, that might be a disadvantage at the other places.

@Anik: Inconsistent with the rest of their scores? I got a 12 on my essay both the times I wrote the SAT, but then that might be because I love writing :) I can write my way through any topic. And trust me, the topics I got for the essay both the times were highly random!!! I dont think I used a lot of fancy words, but I dont know! Maybe I unconciously did, and well... Lol.... Its bygone now!

Why does everyone say 'I gave the SAT'? Wouldn't 'I wrote the SAT' be a better way of putting it?

@tetris : That's what I always think, too :D

Better now? Goes with the flow of words I guess :D

Well sat scores... i actually took em too lightly.. and dint even completely... attempted too little... and essay was easy... I screwed the SAT 2 ..

@ shruti -- thanks..
@ tetrisfan -- I did make it long enough...

ut I really doubt... ec's looks like they have breadth but not depth... well... but that's not the case.. any comments..

Hmmm...definitely! :D

When people ask me about the SAT, I say 'Oh I'm writing it in June' and they'll be like 'Oh, you're giving it so early?'. That's when I start fuming inside. :D

@kranzz: At this point of time, there is no use in trying to think about this man. Trust me, its only gonna make you more nervous. So take a break, (study for your boards? :D) and just relax. I am sure you'd end up someplace good, and if its MIT, all the better for you!

~Sigh, its so much easier said than done~

Echo shruthi

Thank you! :D

This also brings up an interesting point here: what IS the number of Indians applying to top schools?

Shruthi: By inconsistent, I just meant that someone who's talented enough to have scored a 12 on the essay, deserved to have a critical reading score of 780, and a writing reading score of 800. No offense meant.

Tetris: My essay was just a few lines shy of the end of the writing space, and it had words like discordant, presumptuous and intriguing so my problems must've been somewhere else.

Polydenate: Do they like examples based on American history/pop-culture/literature? Because, if so, then they're really unfair. I can't be expected to brush up on Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King just because I'm planning to go to USA.

Is the tone of the essay, or writing style very important?

I would hazard a guess at A LOT! I mean, as of now, I know at least 20 people who are just applying to MIT :( Sigh, makes me wish I was Puerto Rican

@Anik: A person with a 12 score doesnt have to get that high a CR score frankly. CR is pretty different.. As for the examples, I didnt use any of those. I used stuff about people we all know very well, Kalpana Chawla for instance. I am sure it worked pretty well. And my essay was almost near the end of the page too. And they wouldnt expect you to know their history etc, that would be unfair. They just want to see if you can use familiar illustrations, which are well known to you to prove or highlight a point you are using in context.

Tone of the essay and writing style should be important I guess.. But to what extent is what I am not sure of.

Hmmm...I think Icelandic would be better. :D

GTG do some geography now, catch you later!

Catch ya later tetris, I gotta go do some biology a little later too :D

20... so whats the no. of students MIT would admit from India?
And 20 is the no. you know.. so... that implies.. more than 100 must be applying. Hell, i wish i was from Haiti,Benign,...
What about other top unis ??

I am not sure about the other universities. But I am sure that there would be around 100-150 applicants from India. And from what Snively said, it looks like the stack of applications from India was pretty huge. So yeah. And MIT admits around 4-5 students every year from India :(

More than 200 Indian apply to MIT year. Max 3-5 admits each year.

And thats.....
