I am going to take the ACT and I am not very familiar with it. How does the scoring work? and is there any tips that can help you get a good score? I am going to take this test on April 8.

I scored a 34 on the ACT, though I found the SAT more suited for me. I practiced all 3 real ACT tests, and I signed up for the ACT online course for further practice. The ACT is predictable, so I learned from my mistakes and rarely repeated that same mistake.

I recomment the PR act book, the Real ACT book (with 3 real ACT tests), and the ACT online course. Practice for a month, and you should get a great score. Hope that helps :)

(btw, you should refer to the "xiggi method" to learn how to get the most out of the practice tests.)

I have some questions:

1.What does omit the underline mean in English section. What is the difference between that and no change?

Do you all read the whole passage for English section or just the line with the underline?

Do you read all the passages for reading and science? then answer questions?

1.) Omiting means taking off the underlined portion from the particular sentence. It is difference from a "No change" since taking out the underlined portion may completely change the sentence. Expect at least 2 "Omit the underlined portion" as answers in the English section.

2.) Reading the whole passage is important for those questions that ask you to re-order the passage.

3.) Yes. I read fast.

i agree with depravity-waltz

i also read the whole english passage to get a better sense of what is being asked. also it is not very long compared to the reading sections.

for science, i just skimmed then went for the sections. for reading i sort of read the passages but also just skimmed for the main idea.

how do you guys answer the reading questions within the time limit. I have practiced doing a passage in 9 min., but I never seem to stay within the time limit. do you guys just go sraight to the question so you can search for the answer. that way you would have almost 1 min for each question.

I think it's better to take the full reading practice test and then check your time rather than just one passage if you want an idea of how close you will be cutting it on the ACT.

Practice books will say differently, but I find the easiest way for me to tackle the Reading passages is by reading the entire passage first and then answering each question, then referring back to the passage afterwards when needed. Best strategy i've found is reading it through fast, but slow enough so that you are comprehending everything that you read.

The best way to study for the reading passages is practice.
