tell me what you know

What can you tell me about this schools strengths and weaknesses?

nothing :).

I'm with balac. I've barely even heard of this school.

I heared it's pretty good. It's more of a technical school, really. So if you're into sciences or math fields, then the school isn't for you. If you, on the other hand, are interested in Engineering fields, then it's pretty good at that. Oh and did I mention it's size?

h88,

Well, what if I am into both (math/engineering)? I mean, you need math for engineering...right?

and how would this school NOT be for math peeps? I mean, they offer a 5 year master's, right? so why would this school do that? in order to attract math geniuses, I would assume...unless you can specify another reason.

And what's its size?

I'm really sorry I didn't clarify things. What I basically wanted to say is that WPI won't provide you with the best pure (or should I say, theoretical) math or physics major, but of course, basic math and physics courses used essentially in engineering (Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Applied Math, etc..) will undoubtedly be strong. If you're into Engineering, then yeah, it's pretty good at that!

I think it's a fairly small school, with 800 undergrads or so.

is WPI well respected?

I don't think so!

WPI is pretty well respected for engineering, especially in the Northeast US. If you are going to do anything relating to chemical engineering, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering, WPI will look good on your resume. Also, WPI always has good companies that come to their career fairs, which is always a plus when looking at colleges. If good companies come, your chances of getting a good job are, well, really good.

I ALMOST went to WPI.

It's a decent engineering school, and undergrad enrollment is about 2800. Average SAT is in the upper 1200s. Surrounding city (Worcester) is a decent city.

I'm a senior in highschool, but I'm taking a full freshman courseload at WPI:

Strengths:
+Projects Program (3 real-world projects, look great on resumes and give real experience)
+good engineering programs
+Quarter schedule, which means you take 3 classes at a time, for 7 weeks
+No classes Weds. (or just labs), which means partying on Tuesday night
+Pretty big Greek scene
+A week off in October
+Dorm rooms are pretty big compared to other schools, but Freshmen are really the only students that live on campus. (5 freshman dorms, and one upperclassmen dorm, plus some on-campus apartments)

Weaknesses:
-Not very strong humanities
-7 week terms, so a lot of work is compacted into a little time, making it almost impossible to miss class, or else you are way behind
-If you're not in a frat/sorority, there is nothing to do on weekends
-Sports suck (although this year the men's basketball team made it into the NCAA Divion III tournament for the first time in 20 years)
-3:1 male/female ratio.
-Worcester- it has nothing to do
-very small campus, and only about 1200 undergrads
-Freshmen can't bring cars unless they have a job or special circumstance

If anyone has any questions about ANYTHING having to do with WPI, feel free to ask. And by the way, I'm not staying at WPI, I'm going to Georgetown next year.

I know it has 2770 undergrads, not 1200
