Telling interviewer about waitlist/rejection?

Do we need to do so? And if yes - how can I say it in a way that doesn't seem like I'm blaming my interviewer? (Just to clarify.... I really don't blame him/her. I'm just afraid of communicating the wrong message)

Thanks a lot.

Usually the school will notify the inteviewer directly on the status of their interviewees. You don’t need to. However, if you’re on the waitlist, you can certainly reach out to the interviewer and express your continued interest if you want.

Thank you so much, qialah! :)

Your interviewer has already been informed. He/She won’t contact you but you’re free to contact them – but there is no need to do so per se.

"However, if you’re on the waitlist, you can certainly reach out to the interviewer and express your continued interest if you want. "

That won’t do anything. Interviewers have no say whatsoever in WL decisions.

You could argue interviewers have no say period. I’ve had waitlisted kids ask me to write about their continued interest, and I have. Might not help, but it can’t hurt.

I think they already know

At least at my institution, we are only involved of accepted interviewees and not Waitlisted ones. I have written one or two additional emails to the admissions staff for someone I truly believed would fit in well at my University, but alas, they have had no effect (I don’t know if they got “bumped up” in the list at all, but I do know the end result was the same)
