Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

ME! I'm absoutely stuck with essay#5 ...how are we supposed to structure it??

^You don't. Break free of the rigid structure of high school writing, and let your brilliance flow onto the pages!

I just addressed each seminar individually... straight forward. it is only abt 1 pg single spaced size 10 font

I'm done with my essays, but I'm not satisfied with my conflict essay.. seems so boring. and i think that one of my transitions in my critnal seem to... direct/harsh/sudden/ clearly made for the sake transition... and doesnt contribute.

High five for finishing though... coming from someone with absolutely no will power!

for the seminar rankings, i just did what they asked and ranked my seminar choices and included a brief paragraph of explanation for each seminar placement. some other people were more creative with it. indicate which one you would not want to go to, because some people do get their 3rd or 4rth choice.

my seminar ranking one was like. almost 2 pages single spaced LOL. it took a ridiculously long time -_-

i just wrote it like an essay...and explained the rankings within the essay, if that makes sense haha

oh yeah how did you title the seminars though.. i mean like.

quotation marks? ...like how did you address them?

Hail thee, TASPers '08-to-be!

I'm an '07 TASPer and quite vividly remember pulling all-nighter upon all-nighter churning out TASP essays in Berlin last January. More likely than not, you're all 100% sold on the idea already, but in case there's any lingering doubt... here it is: EVERY SECOND SPENT ON THE ESSAYS IS WORTH IT. I promise.

You all seem uber well-versed in TASPy matters (!). But in case I could be of any assistance to answer questions, please do feel free to PM me!

Best of luck, you guys! Come early May, you're all going to rock some socks. I feel it in my bones.

Oh and PS: Is anyone applying from Canada?

Hey Kathy! I am from Canada and I am still deciding on whether or not to apply...I've done 3 essays already, but looking back, they are not very good :S dunno if I'll have the time to finish...

APPLY. APPLY. APPLY. That's pretty much the only advice I can give you. :)

Where are you from in Canada?

and APPLY APPLY APPLY. You still have over 2 weeks!

i enjoyed writing my essays... i put more effort into them because i know that they will be read. in school i know that my teachers will probably not read my essays closely so i never really put much effort into it (still get easy A+). and since i wrote about topics i've been meaning to write about all along anyway but couldn't find a way to bring it up in the school assignments... well, all the more fun. i'm just afraid that my claims are not valid.

Gah... You guys are making me so nervous! You all seem so brilliant and discerning and I'm just... blah. There's no way I'm going to get in. :(

i'm nothing special, and i'm just going to give it a shot becuase... dunno, there's not much to lose and the essays are pretty much complete. Plus the UT austin seminar sounds VERY interesting. i don't think i'll get in either though... so i'm getting backup plans.

I'm applying online and I finally got around to asking for my transcript and recommendation. (I know I'm cutting it pretty close.) When I'm mailing those in do I have to attach any other note for them to know that this transcript goes with this application? They can probably figure it out since it's the same name as in my application but I wasn't sure if I should include a note with my username or something.

I'm having problems with my problem essay. (No pun intended). I'm not in the mood to do any research. I guess I could use material from my English paper on affirmative action... But I'm afraid that would just degenerate into another paranoid Asian's rant about discrimination. Lol.

I am from Toronto, what about you?

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try to apply, but I am in the midst of studying for exams, SAT, and tonnes of assignments in the coming few weeks. GAH. I am afraid that even if I do put together an application, it won't represent my full potential.

are you guys getting anyone to read the essays over before you submit?

I don't think so. My teachers are all ridiculously busy.

i'm trying to rake my memory for an appropriate "personal conflict" essay that won't bore the daylights out of the reader

I got really inspired today while driving, and wrote part of an essay on my cell phone while in traffic.

No safety there!
