i used to get inspired liek that but its not working for me. i have one essay going though so i guess that's progress. its gonna be like for tass, last minute everything, just raw writing. whooo!! lol. wish me luck people.

Blue_sky: I'm from Montreal!

APPLY. APPLY JUST DO IT!

To the people that sent me essays, I emailed you back a few days ago, but I'm having problems with my connection and I don't know if the essay critiques went through. :S Could you email me again, regardless if you received my reply or not, and tell me if you did or didn't? Thanks! :)

D-Yu: the conflict is not so much boring, as is the writing style (can be, I mean). You can make something mundane super interesting, and reduce the most awesome experience in the history of ever to a piece of poop. Don't worry if your conflict isn't HOLYCARPSUPERCOOLANDHIP. :) Just write well about it.

papercrane: you can get friends to review it. :) as for making invalid claims, just get someone to read it! and question your own statements. try to use a diff point of view.

blue_sky: you never know until you try. Just try it. The worst that can happen is that you don't get in. ^^

SIGH. I go back to cawledge in a little under two weeks...and this semester is going to be BUSYBUSYBUSY...and I have to deal with financial aid apps and renewal of aid and carp carp carp. Blah! Finaid apps are boring. BUT COLLEGE IS FREAKING COOL. WHEEEEE. I'm excitededededed.

lunar_years: concentrate on your other essays for now, then, and let that problem one simmer a bit. if all else fails and you're STILL uninspired, just write the AA one. sometimes you'll just have this magical EUREKA moment if you forget about the essays a little. :)

the problem is that my friends... all will say that it's "good," and then hand it back to me. They don't really like analyzing things, most of them.

Oh I had an amazing person who annihilated two of my essays so now I know what to fix and that will take time, lots of time. ;-)
But there is still the question whether I'm to old to apply hanging over my head like the sword of damocles....

Quick question: Could I analyze an excerpt from a text for my critnal? Or are they specifically looking for a broader analysis of one of a work's overall messages/themes?

Thank you!

Hi there, everyone! I'm kind a late arrival because I got my application materials late, unfortunately (mail mix-up), and only found about this program a few days ago. But it looks amazing! Anyway, I am about halfway through with all of my essays, except the critical analysis (I haven't even chosen a text yet!), and if anybody is interested in trading/peer critiquing, just drop me a PM!

What is everyone's first choice program? I like UMich program, but it's officially my third choice because I would rather get away from the Detroit area in general (I live between Detroit and Ann Arbor). My first choice is Cornell II. I'm afraid It's kind of sad that I'm so excited about writing 5 essays....Too bad I don't really have much of a chance; I feel completely inadequate compared to the ultra-brilliant kids on here. But I'm giving it a shot (albeit a long one)!

wink, do you happen to live near canton/ypsilanti? yay for michigan (and ann arbor!); i have such a soft spot for that state now.

oh and to everyone who emailed me i promise i'll get back to you guys very very soon!

Yes, roamorse, I live in Canton. :) Why do you ask?
Michigan can be a b*tch. But I love this state anyway!

Canton! Omg! What high school do you attend? One of our TASPers was from that area, if I can remember...

Tako:
I go to PCEP -- yeah, that messed-up, three school, 6000 student deal. I wasn't aware that someone from this area possibly went to TASP!

that's where one of our TASPers is from! we had our reunion at his house and visited alpha gamma delta (where we lived) in ann arbor :)

^ small world!

Okay guys, I have this dilemna. My parents think I should attend a summer research program so that I can enter Intel/Siemens in the fall (and I agree with them), but I also think that TASP would be a great, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially considering I would not wish to major in a science. For my parents, it somewhat boils down to "how it looks to colleges"--having TASP or Intel/Siemens recognition (assuming I research productively)? What should I do? I don't want to apply to both since I know a lot of people here are truly passionate about TASP and I wouldn't want to take up a space since I'm so indecisive, but I'm truly in a jam here. OR should I just give up and sleep/work on art portfolio all summer? Need advice!

^

I would apply to TASP. My dad is obsessed with me doing something sciency, but I know TASP would be a much better summer (more fun for starters). It depends which summer research program you're thinking of. If it's RSI, then that's great, but if you're not majoring in science it's definitely not as good on your college APP as TASP. If you did get recognized by Intel, that would be fantastic, but you gotta remember that the only people crazy enough to do that are all brilliant anyway and they are people who actually WANT to do science, so they're going to be super sciency nerdy, so you have to weigh your chances of winning something. TASP, on the other hand, is just amazing. Would you rather spend your summer slaving away on a science project or reading and talking to brilliant people your own age? The answer to that is pretty obvious to me.

I would choose both over art portfolio, unless you're very very lucky art will never get you anywhere unfortunately ( :( )

You know though, if you don't apply to TASP that's fine with me too. :D

err do any previous taspers want to read my essay and give me some feedback.... =/ I really don't have many people who would take time to read it over around here.

I will! You can email me at jennysun08@gmail.com

:)

Foreverfree, thanks so much for your advice =D I truly appreciate your fresh perspective. I'm still deciding, but now I am more for TASP. I really hope you get ^^

question:
what types of "problems in the field" and "conflicts" have you previous TASPers written about in the past?
