For our booklist, are books written in other languages fine? I mean, it doesn't say "English" books specifically. More importantly, what's the font/size we have to use? The good ol' MLA?

I honestly don't think it matters. I'm using Times New Roman 12 only because I'm too lazy to change it (ugly as it is) but I've heard of people using Verdana 10. Anyways, if you're doing the online, the application automatically formats it, so it doesn't matter.

On the other hand, finally finished an essay that's not the booklist. I feel so ecstatic. But it's probably the crappiest thing ever, what with all the colloquial language. XD

will going to this help me get into college

yea mclose85. if you combine tasp with a lapdance and teaching kids in africa english, u basically have it made.

thepapercrane: your comment about how writing your papers changed you and all that made me SO happy. :)

badassmonkey: yes, feel free to include non-english books. I did it too, :). And as for font size, as long as it's readable and not super curlicued, it's fine, I think, unless they changed the app and specified they wanted TNR or something. Times New Roman and Arial are always your regulars. Verdana is a personal fav when it comes to clean-cut-looking fonts, and Garamond adds a nice little touch, though it tends to suck up space even when it's small.

^ hahaha i love the garamond font
and do you know how much recommendations count in this?

^^I was wondering that to.

I think I've got a really good reccomendation, but will it be really bad that I'm mailing it a day late? the teacher who was writing it was really sick and she was absent so I'm only going to be able to get it tomorrow =(

oh and i used to like the font "Georgia" but I'm currently liking "Sylfaen"
it was really funny, beacuse for a while I used to only use Georgia for essays, and then my friend showed this to me
» The Secret Lives of Fonts » fadtastic - a multi-author web design trends journal
idk how accurate that really is, although the reasoning makes sense and its interesting.
so that just accentuated my love of Georgia, haha. I use it in 10.5 or 11 I think.

Haha, that was an interesting article!

my friend calls garamond "the pretentious poetic-looking font." personally, i despise times new roman. sylfaen/helvetica/myriad = love. :)

recs don't count for much. they'll supplement your essays and telluride will refer to them as they need to, but a stellar rec will not get you in (although, a horrible rec might make them think twice). the rec from your interviewers, however, WILL be weighted very heavily.

Noooo... I was gonna apply online and found out the transcript/rec were due yesterday. I guess now I've got less time to complete the essays.

I really like Adobe Caslon, but I don't have it on my computer at home. :(

oh roamorse I despise TNR like no other.
you guys have no idea haha. I just CANNOT write using TNR. it's like, impossible for me.

anyone who has ever done a project with me knows this, lol. I have a friend who is very into typography, but she likes using TNR for essays and stuff and everytime we have to do a project together we spend at least 2/3 of the time arguing and distracting each other so that we can change the font.

If I am being forced to write in TNR for class, I must first actually write the essay using a different font and then change it to TNR last second before I print it.

for the booklist, do they have to be books? what if they're plays...that are in books?

very interesting article!
I think the plays would be fine.. I mean it's a text...

and wait, the transcript/rec was due yesterday? what?!

Just wondering, do they tend to favor people based on their financial situation? Thanks..

To everyone who is worried about transcripts/recs being due yesterday...
I emailed the TASP people saying that I was applying online, and I got a reply saying not to worry if you can get the other stuff in by the 22nd (same due date as paper apps). So it's not a big deal...

^omg that's such a relief, haha.

I'm so nervous writing these essays. I'm afraid they'll be too boring, or not what they're looking for.

The Cornell II program looks too amazing for me not to get in. I'm in panic mode ;_;

Haha, illuminar, I feel that same way. My conflict essay is boring beyond belief, but no matter how much time I spend on it, I can't find a way to fix it!

haha im not sure if my conflict essay is interesting either.... i don't know because i've never read any conflict essays. it's not "through hard work and perseverance I have been able to achieve X, Y, and Z," but it's definitely not hemingway, either.
