Literary cubism? I don't even know what that is...I have a lot of reading to do.

haha susan, your essays are intimidating people. no need to read up on random intellectual topics...i went to tasp and i have absolutely no idea what literary cubism is. i guess try to write about whatever you honestly care about, even if it doesn't seem particularly intellectual, because you'll be much more able to talk about it in an interview. a lot of people had essays about their families/friends/schools etc...you can pick personal stuff, don't feel like you have to write your issue essay on war and your literary analysis on a classic. plus, this will make your essays more suitable for reusing as college essays :)

hey guys, i only just found out about TASP today!! do you HAVE to get a teacher nomination to be able to apply or no ??

lol, you don't need to know what literary cubism is to apply to tasp... not necessary at all; just write about what you care about and have some knowledge of whatever that is. yeah, assorted is definitely right; my issues essay topic was not global/political/intellectual at all. don't feel like you need to feign intellect in your essays. it will be fairly easy to spot during an interview, if you get one.

athenegoddess: the application doesn't come out until december, so you're not behind at all. and no, you don't need a teacher's rec. you can download the application online from the telluride website.

how do you know the essay topics?

i went to TASP last summer (michigan :)).

or wait, are you asking about finding out the essay topics for this year? they stay the same year to year (go back a page or two and find tako's post).

hi guys,
i'm planning to apply to tasp. and suggestions?
and what is the most important thing they look at in applications?

phew !! thanks roamorse !! i was getting worried :P

i'm still trying to decide if i want to apply, because its such a long time and i'm dying to go back to my native country as i haven't been back for 3 years. but then again, its such a great opportunity...

sorry; you don't need a teacher's nomination to apply, you do need a teacher's rec to send in along with your application. sorry for the confusion!

God, what would I do without this site? I'm learning so many things that I can be or could of experiencing. I don't think my GC/Teachers would of ever known or told me about this. I'll be sure to apply, but I'm also in the process of interviews for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program (Subject is Business Adminsration), so if I make it I guess I'll have to choose which suits me best.

aww

oooh. now i am filled with such a nostalgia for tasp. Jenny! Emma! Susan! wow. missing you. everyone everyone everyone apply.

(it's so random of me to be sticking my nose in here, i know, but i have limited time to roam on the computer these days...speaking of which, I have a research paper i should be working on...)

Hey I also just found out about TASP from CC, so I have a couple questions. I tried searching, but I'd rather not look through 15+ pages of "omg omg i miss tasp so muchl oloololl".

What's on the application? What do they look for? Do you need a stellar SAT score (2300+) to even be considered, or is a 2000+ decent enough? What's the latest SAT test day they will consider on your app? I keep reading about these essays, do they put more importance on your essays than your SAT score?

Thanks for any info...=]

edit loOl I found some good info posts on pg. 8. Any info is still welcome tho =D

Let me just sum up all your questions...

There is no place to specify any test scores on the application.

^^ True that. It's not a question of "are essays emphasized more than SATs"; rather, as far as I know, SATS are given no consideration w.r.t. the application process whatsoever. The app certainly doesn't ask for you to send a College Board report.

(One exception being that high junior year PSATs might get you an application sent in the mail if you didn't already know about the program..)

oh wow I thought I read somewhere they did look at SAT scores.

So what exactly do they look at? Grades/extracurriculars/recommendation with a massive emphasis on the essays?
