Hey guys - was wondering if you all have figured out your seminar preferences? I’m super torn
When they say to “include a very brief description of its importance to you,” what kind of stuff are you putting down? They aren’t looking for sentimental/personal reasons, are they?
@drakonus Share ur opinions in ur essay. The diversity can be anything. Diversity just means Uniqueness. What makes you unique? That’s how i plan to answer the prompt. BTW @mylhu1011 TASP says they ESPECIALLY encourage minorities to apply so that might mean they practice affirmitave action.
Is the application due on the 19th or the 26th? I’ve seen both dates.
I still haven’t started
@loquatical Just gave me a mini-heart attack. It’s due on the 26th. http://www.tellurideassociation.org/programs/high_school_students/tasp/tasp_apply%20in%20season.html
I should probably start soon, but my finals are next week.
Oh well, I’ll do them all in one weekend. If they decide they like my half-assed essays, then yay for me! I highly doubt that I’d get in otherwise.
Also, is it okay to write essays that are far under the maximum length, or should I throw brevity down the drain?
@drakonus Sorry lol I think I’m too sleep deprived to see numbers right…
@tonystarkofwinterfell Based on my experience with past applications, it’s often best to say what you need to in as many words as necessary, as long as it doesn’t go over the word limit.
@mylhu1011 darn i only have 8000 characters when they asked for 9000 should i try to expand it? actually this is a pretty dumb question but i’m antsy
@tonystarkofwinterfell TBH, I think any length is fine, as long as you get your point across. Quality>quantity.
On another note, my finals are next week too… but I’ll have a couple days after finals yay!
Applied to some other programs too in case I don’t make TASP.
@mischiefmaker If when you try to expand it, you find yourself using just “filler” words, don’t do it. If you have some important details/points you want to add, then go ahead!
where else are you applying @drakonus ?
@tryingforharvard YGYS and Iowa Young Writer’s Studio. Don’t think I’ll get in any, oops.
@drakonus What does YGYS stand for?
Yale Global Young Scholars… want to get some law experience (since I’m considering that as a possible career field).
Really? Same here! I’m actually doing a law internship right now as part of a 3-week class credit January term at my school. I applied last year but didn’t get in… thanks for reminding me, I may apply again. Who knows, if all goes well we might even see each other up there!
Yay! Problem is as much as I want to, I don’t think I’m going there for law (due to another scheduling conflict…) I put the innovation technology business thingy as my first choice.
Let’s keep this thread TASP relevant again.
Lately, I’ve been having trouble finishing my essays- I keep on waiting for that “eureka!” moment which sometimes hits me when I write, and I write well during those moments… but it hasn’t happened yet, and there are only 2 weeks left until the deadline.
I’m scared I’ll have to force myself to write, but it just won’t be as good quality as it could possibly be…
I still haven’t started my essays (still looking for ideas). Anyone know how they are answering the last short answer question about our awards, honors, clubs…I have clubs and stuff (Mock Trial, Scioly, Math Team, etc) but im afraid they dont go far enough for TASP
My ECs aren’t even related to TASP at all… oops.
hahaha same i’m like really focused on this one overarching part of my high school career but it’s only one ec
