I don’t think so…the prompt asks for an essay, not a poem. It’s also just a pain for the reader if they have to then work that hard to analyze everything you’re writing
actually scratch that. it could also look very good. I’m not sure. It could really go either way
I think I’m going to do it. They can determine my essay-writing ability from the other two essays. I’m also probably going to put the Poetry seminar as my first choice, so it’ll be a way to show how passionate I am about the subject.
I kind of criticize the United States government in my essay… that’s okay right lol
@bsdsj22 it depends, what are u saying about the govt?
Whats the minimum length I should make an essay? Should it be like an actual essay style (an intro, 2 body paragraphs, conclusion) or just answer the question and get to the point>?
It’s just a light, implied criticism about how the U.S. government isn’t taking action against North Korea.
krauser126 I’m no TASP alum, but I guess we’re supposed to write formal essays for these
@bsdsj22 Is that for the second long essay prompt? If so I mean you should be able to convince the folks at TASP of it, so good luck
im seeing a lot of people who are writing about political issues. is anyone else writing about a literary/aesthetic issue instead? join me!!!
Is it fine if I used an extended anecdote (my childhood and passions) to describe why I wanted to attend TASP? Does it seem like I’m going on a tangent and off topic by just talking about my childhood past?
@TASPER im doing that too! @krauser126 i think thats way off tangent. its not a prompt asking for ur history or who u are, its a prompt asking about why you want to do tasp so i think its important to keep ur response focused. conciseness is key!
@TASPER I am!
@krauser126 I hope its ok because that’s basically half of my first essay lol
@krauser126 Half of my “Why GHP?” essay for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program was like that, describing my past experiences and how they shaped me as a writer (I applied for the communicative arts major), and I moved on to the semifinalist round. The question doesn’t just ask “Why TASP?” It asks what unique perspectives you can bring to the program. If you can answer that while also talking about your past experiences, then I think that’s a perfectly acceptable essay response.
My first essay was only 748 words (4429 characters) x[ is that way too short? I’ve never done this before.
@krauser126 Anything is fine, as long as you get your point across.
@krauser126 as everyone will tell you, its not about length, its about content. many people write essays way under and get in, many people write to the max limit and get in
Guys I am so happy right now; I just had the epiphany I’ve been waiting for. Goodbye writer’s block!
