Temple Class of 2020!

@Chocohol congrats! Any scholarship offered will be right in the acceptance letter.

letter she gets in a couple of weeks will mention merit scholarships. i think some people have called admissions and learned about scholarship that way too, after person is admitted. did you submit fafsa for need based aid?

Thanks @jnkam24 and @ctl987! I did submit the FAFSA at the end of January. We’ll wait for the letter!

did anyone get in with an SAT score around 1520?

My son just signed up for housing. He will be living in the 1940 dorm next year and he found his roommates through facebook. It is all moving so quickly!

Our son signs up tomorrow. He’s shooting for White.

My application is on hold and possibly won’t hear back till April 1st. If I don’t hear back till then will housing be all full already?

S signed up for room (White) and meal plan today. Next thing, I suppose, is finding suitemates.

My son signed up for housing in 1940 today as well - random roommates. This made it seem so real for me!

I visted yesterday and I really loved it! The campus was definitely safer and nicer than I had expected it to be. Honestly didn’t even see much of the run down North Philly area. The Honors Recption was the highlight for me, very engaging and the skit they put on was entertaining. Unfortunately, I was not able to visit 1300 as they were not offering tours. Instead I visited Morgan and 1940. Morgan was REALLY nice. My only concern is that I read an article last year where students were saying that the living atmosphere was not that social - as in the students had almost everything they needed in their dorms so coming out of their rooms to hang with others wasn’t necessary. If I do decide to go to Temple (which is looking extremely likely) then I would probably pick 1300 if that’s the case. Can anyone student who currently lives there give me some more info on that?

I applied at the end of January, and haven’t received a response… My essays still haven’t been read! My stats aren’t good, 3.3, but I was waitlisted at Marist. So, I think I have a shot at Temple.

Anyone know what’s going on? How do I know if I was put on hold?

@newjerseygirl98 Although it shouldn’t take this long for you at this point, it took Temple two months to read my daughter’s essays. It was only then that her application was considered complete and ready for review, and it then took another four weeks to get her decision.

So, I might get my decisions in April or May? :frowning: @Chocohol

@newjerseygirl98 I would think sometime in April since May 1 is decision day - but you could call admissions to find out for sure. The Temple Option seems to really slow things down - don’t know if I would have encouraged my daughter to use it if I’d realized how much longer it would take!

Anyone receiving scholarships below what their stats qualify them for?

Is anyone else concerned that all the housing will be gone by the time they confirm admission? I am visiting Temple next week, so I wouldn’t submit my deposit until about two weeks out. I am worried that I won’t be able to get housing. They do not guarantee housing, correct? I also want to get into Honors housing if I can.

No worries there is plenty of honors housing. The priority deadline for honors llc is may 1. You’re fine.

@Chrysanthemum14 I also visited on 3/13! The Honors Reception was exciting. I got to see 1300 and I really liked it. I heard a couple people–staff and students–make comments about 1300 being sorta antisocial. However, I can tell you that my roommate and I (both assigned to 1300! Woo hoo!) are not antisocial, and we ran into some other very friendly Honors students. I also got to meet one of the awesome RA’s. She told us they have an open door policy–that is, students can leave their doors open to encourage other students to wander in. A current student also told me that the study lounge is also a great place to make friends. To a certain extent, it is what you make of it. If you want a social life, you should not have a problem obtaining that.

@ajs28152 @jnkam24 I talked to the housing staff extensively about this when I visited on 3/13.

They told me that a common misconception Honors students hold is that getting into the HLLC is easy and almost automatic. This is not the case. Housing is not guaranteed for anyone, and it is especially not guaranteed for the HLLC.

My parents were so anxious to get my housing straightened out that I paid the $450 back in February and submitted the HLLC app in early March. Even with what I thought was “early” action on my behalf, the Housing staff warned me that I still might not get in to the HLLC.

Anyways, after a nerve-wrecking wait, I finally got assigned to the HLLC with my chosen roommate (so yay). I really don’t know what the situation is right now. I cannot tell if they are just trying to scare students into applying early or if it is genuinely impacted this year. I think that their Honors program is growing, so getting into the HLLC might be harder than it was in previous years; I just don’t know to what extent. I hate to sound so urgent, but I would encourage you to submit your deposit and fill out the HLLC ASAP. I’ve been watching students search for HLLC roommates on RoomSync. In early March, there were only 20 or so HLLC students on the site. After Experience Temple on 3/13, that number had ballooned to 50+, and there are probably even more now. Once you submit your deposit, you will be given a date on which you can sign up for your back up housing in the normal dorms. I highly recommend doing this in case you do not get into the HLLC. If you do get in, the HLLC staff will cancel your previous reservations.

I would encourage you to contact Musu Davis for any specific questions you may have. She is in charge of the HLLC, and is an absolute sweetheart. Her email is musu@temple.edu and her phone number is 215-204-0713. Right now she is ridiculously busy. It takes her anywhere from 3-7 business days to respond, but she is worth the wait. Also, if you have any general questions, just call the general Honors number. They are all very nice and helpful.

And of course, you can always ask me your questions. I’ve gained a lot of TU experience during the past couple months, and I’ve probably annoyed the heck out of their staff. Best of luck!

@danceologist that is completely the opposite of what I was told concerning honor llc. I specifically asked Ruth Ost that question during an honors visit (difficulty of getting into honors llc) and she told me as long as you do it by may 1, it would not be a problem. @ajs28152 I would definitely call if I were you to obtain the info. I would suggest talking to the honors staff. Good luck!
