Temple Health Scholars Program anyone?

I applied and got into Temple.

But, i haven't heard anything at all from the program.

You need to 3.8 gpa and 1320 minimum for program. i have those

you need to maintain 3.5 gpa and have 30 MCAT score i think..ehh :/

It's really like a backup program for me if i dont get into any other programs or good undergrads.

Anyone else applying

Wow no one? not even with the other 2 schools with Temple Med?

I interviewed for both the W&J and Duq Med Scholars programs. They went pretty well, but both the guys say everything is decided by Temple and they really have no say. Temple Meds pretty good, and I’m hoping to get an interview from them round late Feb/early March.

Oh nice, you didnt want to apply to Temple-Temple? I didnt do the other 2 because i heard temple was the strongest undergrad, idk i could be wrong.

Here’s Temple (got from some site):
Temple Med has programs with four undergrads: Duquesne University, Washington & Jefferson University, Widener University, and Temple University. The first three schools programs are called BA/MD, while the last one with Temple undergrad is called the Health Scholars Program.

The first three programs are more straight forward. You are required to maintain a 3.5 GPA and score a 30 on the MCAT. That’s pretty standard. But to get into these three programs, you have do two interviews: one with the undergrad, and one with Temple Med. To me, this is a pain in the ass. For someone not from the area, this can cause great inconvenience. Also, note that Widener gives a preference to residents of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. Don’t apply if you’re not from these states. It would be a huge waste of time.

For the Temple Health Scholars Program however, it’s a little bit different. To remain in the program you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA and do another interview during your junior year. MCAT is also required, but I don’t know what the required score is. This Health Scholars Program doesn’t sound as safe as the BA/MD programs.

From what I heard, the location of Temple Med is a huge negative. It’s located in North Philly, not exactly the safest spot in Philly. However, the quality of education at Temple Med seems to be very solid. They were on probation a few years ago but have gotten back on track.

Heres The other 2:
Incoming freshman with SAT scores of 1350 or higher, at one sitting, in the math and verbal sections (no single score below 600, this includes the new writing section) or a minimum composite ACT score of 31 are eligible to apply to this program in advance of matriculation. Qualified candidates will first be interviewed by the PMPP and then by members of the Admissions Committee from Temple School of Medicine. Students must indicate their interest in the program by checking the DMSP code on the Duquesne University Admissions application.

I thought that Temple Med stopped the program with their undergrad, so I did not apply there.
The guys I interviewed with said that the application is all in Temple’s hands now and that they are only 8 spots. There were 19 interviewees at W&J and 30 Duquesne, so chances are still pretty bad.
I just wanna get into one of these and see if I get into a Drexel program too. I just submitted union/amc supplement and am waiting to hear from uconn & stony brook.

I got rejected from vcu and siena/amc so far. Then there’s all the undergrads

wait what? where did you head that, i applied and called and they said they had my essay so im sure its not stopped, unless they’re truely stupid and wasted my time…

Anyway, wow that crazy,~50 interviews already, i didnt think it was that popular, or atleast there wouldnt be many “high-caliber” kids, but you shouldnt assume that.

I also submitted my union supp, also rejected from siena, and i am also waiting for uconn and a few others lol.

did any of you guys ultimately choose to go to temple? i’ve been invited to interview for the temple+temple health scholars program, but im not sure if i should even spend the time and money to pay for a plane ticket to go because of safety concerns. the area around temple isn’t very safe from what i’ve heard. any thoughts on that?
