Yes, we are from the Pittsburgh area. My son just received confirmation that they are requesting 16 bar cuts not 32. His uptempo that he has been using may not work as 16 bars so he has some work to do.

yeah i jsut got the email too. I’m from Scranton area. I think mine will work, bt I’ll just have to play around with it =/

Hey guys! Good luck with your Temple audition this weekend! My D is a freshman MT at Temple and I believe she will be helping out with auditions on Saturday. If you see a petite curly haired blonde with way more energy than is humanly possible…well…that’s her! Temple was by far one of my D’s favorite audtions as everyone was very helpful and friendly. She absolutely loved the dance audition and is now pursuing a dance minor in addition to the theater/MT major. Peter Reynolds, the head of MT, is wonderful and always willing to answer questions. Have fun!!
Amanda…we are from the Milford area. Not too far from you!! :)

Hi Stagemom! We will look out for your daughter. My son is very excited for his Temple audition, though he is a little worried about the dance portion since he is not an experienced dancer. I guess we will see. We are touring the school tomorrow and look forward to seeing the campus. Philadelphia has a lot to offer aspiring artists!

oh super fun!! yay! im sooo excited! yeah… im not the best dancer, but i have fun, soooo im okay with it. =) I jsut hope it doesnt snnow=/ And yeah! you are close!

I was accepted today! woooo =)

Congratulations & Good Luck!!

How fast does Temple notify of acceptances? I’m auditioning on Feb 26th

I’m also auditioning on the 26th (see you there tainted!) and would love to know the same thing.

Don’t know how long it takes to hear back from your audition (which is what you probably really want to know ), but Temple is a rolling admissions school and you must be accepted academically before you can be accepted into the MT concentration program.

Congratulations on admittance to Temple Amanda. It was a real pleasure to meet you at the audition. Good luck!

As far as admittance to the musical theatre program, we were told that no decisions would be made until after the final audition in early March. We probably have to wait until mid March to find out. My son enjoyed his audition at Temple. He particularly liked how they had him redo his monologue from a different perspective.

mommybug-so glad your son enjoyed his Temple audition. It was one of my daughter’s favorite auditions! Perhaps you had a chance to speak with her…she was helping organize that day.

My D loved the dance audition and one of the dance teachers who was at the audition has now become one of her favorite teachers and mentors. D is now pursuing dance as a minor…this is a new option for MT majors. Before, it was very difficult to get into the dance program as a minor as it is tightly run by the Boyer school and is known for turning out some top notch dancers!

I can tell you that it shouldn’t be a very long wait after the final round of auditions…my D auditioned at the last round in March last year and was called 2 days later with the news that she was being offered a spot in the MT concentration. Best of luck to your son in all his auditions…if I can answer any questions about Temple, please feel free to ask!

Oh okay, I must have misread, I thought Amanda4061 meant she was accepted to the MT program.

Stage Mom,

I did have the opportunity to speak with your daughter. She was very helpful and sweet and an excellent spokesperson for the Temple musical theatre program. There were only 9 kids auditioning in the morning so we had a nice opportunity to speak with the Temple MT kids who were there. Your daughter and her friend did an excellent job.

My son and I are hoping that he will get an offer. So far, he has gotten in as a music/voice major at Otterbein which is right now his top choice, but MT at Temple would certainly rank up there. Just one more audition to go!

Hahaha…that’s my girl! D is so passionate about MT and Temple! She can be quite the chatty Cathy!

According to D there were quite a few cancellations that morning but it was nice that the kids who did attend got a chance to work/rework monolgues and songs with the faculty. Peter Reynolds and Nancy Boykin were 2 of the reasons D chose Temple, along with the strong BFA-like program within a BA degree. She also wanted to pursue an honors degree, which so far, she is managing even with the scheduling nightmares that brings.

Congrats on your son’s Otterbein acceptance and best of luck in his last audition. Keep us posted!

I was accepted into the theater program. The day of the audition, I told them there was a problem with my app,a dn 3 hours later I was accidemically accepted. yesterday I got a packet saying i was accepted into the wschool of commincationa nd theater for theater.

It’s the MT concentration that we’re auditioning for though, and that’s what I thought you meant when you said you were accepted. When I got my acceptance packet it also said I was accepted as a theatre major, but I’ve yet to audition for MT.

Amanda…tainted is correct. You have been accepted academically into the university just not into the MT program yet.

Theater majors apply and are accepted just like any other major…the MT concentration requires being accepted artistically from the audition. If you don’t get chosen for the MT track then you have the choice of pursuing theater via other majors/tracks. If you choose to pursue an Acting track then you will be required to audition to take Acting courses beyond Theater 2261 (Acting II). I believe this is sometime in your sophmore year…not sure about that.

From our experience last year the top 12-16 chosen for the MT concentration are called first and as kids accept/decline, they go down the waitlist. We were told last year at auditions that they accept no more thn 16 kids (usually less). This years freshman class is 11 (was 12 but one boy transferred). 6 guys and 5 girls.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

Stage mom,

Did your daughter say how many kids auditioned in the afternoon session? I heard that the afternoon was full. Also, we had one other question which we forgot to ask when we were there. We were wondering if it would be possible with the MT major to minor in voice since you are able to minor in dance?

mommybug- Not sure how many auditioned in the afternoon but I know it was full.

Boyer runs thier own auditions for the voice major as that is a BM. You can minor in music though and that includes some private voice. I guess you would have to figure out how to schedule all the music courses around what is already a tight MT schedule. MT kids get thier weekly voice lessons through Boyer and D says it’s a pain because you are crossing over into another school…both dance and voice is run by Boyer but there are specific dance/voice courses created just for the MT major as well as courses the student can take from Boyer as an elective. I would say that voice is probably the least intensive of the 3 disciplines in the MT core…it helps to be strong in voice going in. Best bet is to call Boyer and ask how it would work.
