Temple University Musical Theatre Emphasis

We are going to see the mt concert:) We might fit in Flea as well. Please tell us what the shows next year are!!

persevere- Are you going on Sunday? I will be there!! I’m going to try to make Flea as well.

I guess I’m allowed to let the cat out of the bag about the shows…Urinetown in the fall and Chicago in the spring for musicals, then Richard III, Top Girls and 3 plays from Neil LaBute for the straight plays. Plus there’s always grad scenes, directing scenes and tons of other projects to be involved in. It’s gonna be a great year! :)

We are looking forward to the concert Sun - good luck to your daughter! Next year’s shows sound awesome:)

I wish we could make it in for the concert and flea, but we have so much planned over the next several weeks. My son was really excited when I told him about Urinetown in the fall. Hope to have the opportunity to meet both of you at upcoming shows!

mommybug - Someone cut and paste the wrong post in the acceptances list a few days ago and your post isn’t there. I thought I’d let you know in case you wanted to fix it.

Thanks Persevere. It was fixed. Has your daughter decided on Temple? My son has decided to attend!!! We are really excited. I am only nervous about housing. We sent in our deposit last week, but it still hasn’t been processed. He can’t apply for housing until it is processed. Really excited about the school and the program!

That’s wonderful mommybug!! Don’t worry about housing…as long as you got your deposit in he will have a place to live! Temple is a tad slow with paperwork…if I was to complain about one thing with this school it would be with the administrative offices…they are so slow and every person you talk to has a different answer! I chalk this up to Temple being such a large school. But the theatre dept. is awesome and the MT program is definitely Peter Reynolds and Nancy Boykin’s baby. My D absolutely loves them and they, in fact, were one of the biggest influences in her choosing Temple. (over a well regarded BFA program no less).
I look forward to meeting you at some point over the next few years!! Congratulations!
~Tamara~

mommybug - Congrats to your son!! Just like stagemom23 said, the people in the theater department at Temple are extremely welcoming and have an awesome philosophy. I wouldn’t worry too much about the housing, especially since you already put down the deposit.

Hello everyone!

I’m so happy to see all of this excitement about Temple MT!!!

taintedxl0ve: There are so many incredible classes for regular theater majors. There’s a variety of acting classes, dialect classes, Alexander Technique, stage combat, movement classes, technical theater and design classes and MORE! PLUS anyone is aloud to take musical theater classes with if there’s room and you get Peter Reynold’s permission.

As you may know from my previous posts, my name is Katie and I’m a junior (soon to be a senior) in Temple’s MT program. I’ve been here for three years now, and I LOVE IT! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask me here or send me a PM. Also, if you are ever visiting Temple or live in the area, I’d be more than willing to meet up with you and talk about the program, the university, and everything they have to offer!

I’m so happy to hear that some of your kids will be in next year’s freshman class! I can’t wait to meet them!

Hi Katie, It is nice to hear that you love the musical theatre program at Temple. We look forward to meeting you sometime in the coming year!

Kaitrin - Hi! We saw you in Sweeney Todd and you were awesome! I was looking on the website for the required courses and credits for the dance minor that MT students can now do, and couldn’t find it. Do you know?

Hi Kaitrin,
My daughter and I will be visiting Temple in late August (the first week of your senior year) and would love to take you for coffee and talk about the program. Can you pm me your email so that we can get in touch this summer? Thanks.

Class of 2015 Woohoo!

persevere- Yay!!! :)

Yeah!!! So glad our kids will be classmates Persevere!

Thanks stagemom23 and mommybug! Mommybug, we will most likely meet at productions:) We went to the musical theater production on Sunday and ended up sitting right behind stagemom23 - isn’t that funny? The musical theater kids were very good and we could tell they have been well trained!

I can’t wait to see a performance and look forward to meeting both of you next fall! Stagemom, do you have any idea how many new freshman auditionees were offered the MT concentration this year?

mommybug- no, not offhand although I’m sure my D would know. She’s teching a show right now but I’ll ask her when things calm down a bit. I do know that besides your S and persevere’s D there were 2 current Temple freshman that auditioned and were offered spots in the MT concentration…one boy and one girl. SO that makes 4 total I know have accepted thus far…2 boys, 2 girls. Usually the class is no more than 18…most times smaller.

My D’s class will be the first MT class to go through all four years of the MT program!! I’m sure the program will continue to expand and grow artistically as the years go by!

Congrats to you both!!

Persevere - Thanks for the compliments on Sweeney! It was a wonderful experience! I don’t think you will find the information about the dance minor anywhere online. It’s a brand new option, which is only available for MT students. I know we were emailed a list of requirements in info, but I unfortunately no longer have that. Your best bet would be to email Peter Reynolds or Nancy Boykin. They should be able to give you the information!

Thanks Stagemom. My son is interested in meeting some of the other MT students. It is very exciting to have him a part of such a new program. I anticipate an exciting four years filled with many trips to Phili for me!!!
