I was offered spots on varsity teams at both temple and BC, and I’m not sure which school to attend.
Temple is offering me a major scholarship while BC has given me zero merit.
I want to major in public health which isn’t offered at BC but BC has the incredible reputation and a much higher starting salary than temple.
How will you pay for BC?
Money talks and it seems BC doesn’t have exactly what you want. Just be sure that the Temple money will still be there if you get injured or just want to quit the sport.
If you kick butt at Temple in your chosen field of study, then you will have great employment opportunities.
Continue to succeed in the classroom as you have on the playing fields and you’ll do well at either.
Assuming the scholarship makes Temple much cheaper overall, and would mean the difference between loans or not, take the money and run. Temple is a solid school and Philly is a great place to go to college.
Which environment do you prefer (urban v suburban location, Jesuit v non-sectarian, size etc.)
Can your family afford BC (with no hardship, loans)? Are you planning on grad school?
Do you prefer one team/coach?
Boston College does not offer merit except for 15 Uber elite Gabelli Scholarships. So don’t feel slighted at all. But they meet 100 percent of need based off the CSS.
So look at the net cost after all aid.
If they are both affordable and the teams/coaches are equivalent, BC would be a wise decision. It’s quite a school.
If Temple has the better financial offer for your personal situation and/or the team is better fit for you - that would be an equally wise decision.
Good luck and congrats.
Thank you all so much for you replies!
My parents would be willing to pay the BC tuition but it is expensive. And unfortunately my family will most likely not qualify for aid at BC.
I had been preferring Temple for the major and team/coach however I only received 14k in aid and will try to petition for more.
I am planning on grad school which was another reason I was leaning towards Temple.
