Temple University.

My son is accepted. Still
Now word of any merit
He has a 3.94 GPA.
Is there any hope??

Merit is mostly based on test scores, not GPA since most have very high GPAs.

What was his test score?

Did he submit test scores? Did you receive anything in the mail yet, or just on the portal?

My son received a letter stating he was not accepted or denied. They said they wanted to see his mid year grades And a new ACT. He is in mostly AP classes and will get all A's. However, his ACT is not great and it actually went down a point on the last test. He is an excellent student and is still taking all AP classes in his senior year but is not a good standardized test taker.

In another thread you mention that his test scores weren’t good. If that’s true, then likely he won’t get any merit. From the above, it sounds like he was a “borderline admit.”

Simply getting admitted does not mean that merit will be awarded. Schools don’t award (real) merit to every admit.

Merit tends to go like this:

There’s a HUGE pool of applicants that have a high GPA

There is a smaller pool of applicants that have high test scores for the school.

There is an even smaller pool of applicant that have both high test scores and high GPA <<<=== these are the kids who typically get merit scholarships.

He applied without test scores.
Had to answer 3 essay questions.
He got into Fox.
They assured me that him not submitted test scores has no bearing on merit
I wonder if that’s true.
Called today. They said final date to let him
Know if he gets money is 3/1.

I recommend looking at the Temple threads if you haven’t already. Lots of people with high stats including test scores did not get what they were hoping this year. Lots with VERY high stats got great merit. While not submitting test scores may have no bearing on merit, it doesn’t mean merit is guaranteed either. Temple also applies their own formula to GPAs, so that may not be what you thought either what is his unweighted GPA? Don’t forget, Temple only includes core courses in their calculation.

I highly doubt that’s true. If it were, no one would bother submitting scores. Why would a school give the same merit consideration to a 3.8 GPA 35 ACT as to a 3.8 GPA no scores???
