I recently applied to both temple and Drexel. I want to major in computer and electrical engineering. How do the schools compare? Hows the other aspects of each school? I want to know the pros and cons of each so can make my decision making easier.

Drexel is significantly more expensive. Drexel has a strong co op program. I am not a fan of the campus, although others claim it is improving. I think it is a hideous mess of buildings that are stuck between UPenn and the train station. I grew up in the area, and walked through what claims to be campus a lot, and have also been there many times in recent years. It HAS improved with some beautiful new buildings and attempts at green space. Engineering there has a good reputation.

Temple- I’m sure poster Dionte will weigh-in since he is a huge fan. I still think the area is dangerous. Temple is a good value for an in-state student and has a decent reputation in the Phila/NJ area. Lots of commuting students at both Temple and Drexel. I don’t know much about your major at Temple.

the survival rate at Drexel is significantly higher

I think Temple has a better campus and overall feel, but Drexel is really well-known for their comp. sci/engineering/etc. programs. The co-op would also help pay for tuition since it’s much more expensive than Temple, like momofwildchild said. I have a bunch of friends at both Temple at Drexel, and from what I’ve gathered, all the Drexel kids go to Temple parties since they’re supposedly way better. Temple also has more artsy kids since their Tyler art school is really good. Temple’s location is pretty shady, though if you stay on campus it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. Drexel’s campus, while not beautiful, is right near Penn, so you get to make friends/party there. It’s also near 30th street station (train station) which is really convenient in my opinion.

Even if you are out of state, Temple’s tuition is affordable where Drexel is much more expensive. I don’t really know how much better the education is at Drexel for the cost. They do have the co-op program but you need to be hired by a co-op employer and I am sure the pay varies. You also have to consider if you spend 5 years at Drexel you will pay even more than if you did for 4 since tuition will continue to rise and you will need to pay for living expenses as well. You could find part-time jobs and Summer interns at Temple and do the same thing. It appears Drexel appeals to the students that want to attend a more prestigious, private university close to center city that don’t have the specs to get into UPenn. If you can afford Drexel and like their program I am sure it will be easier to find a job than if you attended Temple but if not, walk away since it is a high-cost, high-debt university that doesn’t meet the financial needs of the students like UPenn. It is true that the area around Temple is bad, have you considered Penn State?
