Hi. I am really stuck on which college to go to. I have my choices narrowed down to Temple and Rowan. I want to major in Biology and I was accepted into both of their Honors Programs. I just don't know which has the better advantages and a better Bio department. Any advice at all would be really helpful! Thank you!

Which one costs less? Are you instate for one of them?

Are you planning to live on campus or commute?

The campuses are VERY different. Housing near Temple will not be as nice as Rowan for the same budget. But, if you are a city person, there is so much take advantage of at Temple.

Academically, and especially in the Honors program, you will find similar opportunities.

Iām in state for Rowan but i got a full tuition scholarship for both schools. Thatās why Iām so stuck between the two schools since I think both have about equal academics and I really do not have to worry about money.

Also I will be commuting so thatās another factor in my decision since Temple is about 20 minutes commute while Rowan is only about 5.

IF cost is about the same then I would definitely recommend Temple.

Temple will be good if you enjoy being in a city and it generally a higher academic standard and reputation than Rowan(I have friends at both). Since you are commuting and the time difference is almost negligible I would recommend Temple so you arenāt too close to home and get to experience a new environment.

Also keep in mind, if you are a bio major considering premed, Temple has its own medical school which could allow for opportunities for you to intern or do research.

I wouldnāt say Temple has higher academic standard than Rowan. They are actually in the same level. Go with Rowan because it has bigger campus and its located in a nice area. Temple is in North Philly which is a high crime area maybe ultra high but when I visited there the campus police assured me that they are taking several steps to minimize this.

IMHO, Temple has a stronger national reputation. Folks outside the mid-Atlantic mostly have not heard of Rowan, but some know Temple.

Maybe the academic standards are on a similar level but I would have to agree with Hanna that Temple has a much larger and stronger academic reputation. Even in NJ a decent amount of people have never heard of it.

Also keep in mind the amount of students at Temple is more than double that of Rowan. So if you are looking for a smaller student body, Rowan would be the one but its doesnāt actually have a āsmallā student body.

jiaxiclark: Congrats! Sounds like you did a great job. Two desirable schools that want you, and both very different. I like both. āBioā is kind of general (fine for the stage you are). Some decisions will narrow as you go along and learn your interests and capabilities.

Temple: City. Name brand, primarily due to the basketball team and communications school, not to mention that Bill Cosby went there. Will never win a national football championship. Established medical program.

Rowan: Suburbs at main campus. New medical school trying to duplicate its success with engineering. Both Democrat and Republican powers (among them Christie and Sweeney and Norcross) want the medical school to work and are putting up the cash and infrastructure to make it work. Heck, they revamped the entire way NJ colleges do business to make it work. Went to the national Division 3 title game in football; will never be in your March Madness bracket. Bill Cosby visits there.

Not sure where your classes will be for undergrad; Iām imagining Glassboro.

If you want to shake your pom-poms at the Big 5 basketball games and see your schoolās name in your March Madness bracket, Temple is the better choice. If you are a do-er more than an avid spectator, Rowan might be the better choice.

Both have Owls as mascots.

I would visit both. On an official tour, and a non-official āpop-inā during school hours to get a āfeelā. If you are 5 minutes from Rowan, you might be underestimating the time it will take you to commute/park/walk to Temple. Choose the school where you can visualize yourself getting the full experience; hanging out, getting involved, doing stuff, not just commuting to classes like a job.

Good luck!
